It's logistically confusing to make roman blinds. My recent two were my 3rd and 4th makes and it was only on the 4th that I began to think that I'd got the hang of it! Unpick it... you'll be more satisfied with the result in the end!MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0 -
Yep - its why its in the loft. I knew it would come to the unpicking! Joy of joys:eek:
Update on the pleasure pain month so far....
Well on the pleasure side - for the last few days I have been relatively pain free in the knee and back department:j Which is giving me new found hope that this week I might actually start the learning to swim campaign - lets see. On the pain side - there is no pain :T fingers crossed I am well on the road to recovery.
I have been away again and got back this evening. I've had a couple of days of low budget spends. I can't claim NSD but very close to it although today was a NSD when I think about it!! Go me!!!!:p
I am hoping that if I can have a low spend week that I may even finish the month without dipping into my savings pool. This month started on a downward slide but I am really hoping I can turn it round to level at least. Ever the optimist:)0 -
We are having an electrical nightmare. Now the little box thingy for the freeview channels has given up the will to live and now we have no tele:o So that's the printer and the tv this month
The internet box thingy is also playing up and our connection keeps dropping out, so not sure how long that will survive either. The only saving grace is that they are joint account purchases and not from my account. Its an odd set up we have really when I think about it but it works. We use the joint account for bills and anything left each month builds up until we have enough to get another job done on the house. The mortgage gets paid from my account which is why I have taken up the mission for MFW'dom. Something I had not considered has just occured to me - when all big jobs are done on the house we will have more money to OP! Ha ha. That is quite some time off but will, no doubt, send me back to the OP calculator after this little rant. Now the coggs are whirring and I can't concerntrate on the rant so I'm off, catch you all later

"Out damn spot" Cried the Lady of Macbeth - and so say me! My damn spot is playing with the OP calculator instead of doing things that a) count against the list of jobs and b) result in reducing the mortgage. The image that the OP calculator torments me with is being MF and the reality is I need to pay the mortgage off. A fine line between fiction and reality - real world and delusion. Brave though I am for mentioning both "M" words. M either being THAT play or MFW - take your pick but I will live to tell the tale (according to new calculations earlier than my hopeful 8yrs!!!!!) However new predictions of the money world thinks that we are slowly climbing out of the recession so interest rates could rain on my parade. Oh pooh/hurrah. Good for investment and the country bad for our personal circumstances.
Bitter sweet - pleasure/pain - thus the month rolls on
3 ripe raspberries in my garden - tomorrow enough to adorn a pudding. If only raspberries and apples had appeared in Shakespeare. He would have a cast of Thug, Lady Jane, Wandering Clouds, Little Rascals (raspberries new name) and Numptyknownothing. Not quite a classic but enough for a farce.
Thank goodness for simple pleasures to keep the maddness in check :rotfl::D0 -
Hiya, good to find you. I need to catch up on your journey, so as I am working from home today, will pop the kettle on and get comfortable.
I love popping out and picking late raspberries. We had 7 last night and DD came and found me and we had a moment of guilty pleasure :j. DD had 4, should a mother be that generous I wonder?
I have had a mortgage since I was 21  so by the time this one is cleared, at least 32 years of my life have been spent carrying a mortgage :eek::eek:
I am one of the ones that OP quite a it but not 000s a week. Bear in mind though, if we had been sensible we would have been MF years ago. Thank goodness for the LBM, although I lurked for a year before plucking up the courage to start a diary.
Right off to put the kettle on and will catch up with your diary.
Good luck with your plans, Tilly x x2004 £387k 29 years - MF March 2033:eek:

Hi Tilly - Sorry all my posts are a bit long so you will need a brew to catch up. 2-1 to me on the raspberry front. DH tried to kill my raspberries with the lawn mower and I have not forgiven him yet.
Along with the weather I appear to be basking in a late flush. Things felt decidely peaky/troughy at the beginning of the month and now I am wondering if this is the lull before the storm. I still have money in the bank after thinking this month would be difficult and I might even save something too.
Thai green curry for dinner all stuff from cupboard and freezer other than a courgette and some corriander.
Still no TV - have I missed anything? The news but other than that not really0 -
I think I'm taking this electronic free thing too far - Didn't even turn on the laptopamabob yesterday. Does that count to NSD and energy saving! Stewed apple from garden - Thank you Thug.
Pleasure - We have finished painting the outside of the house :T We were delayed as I took the paint to work rather than leaving it here for DH to finish the job on his last lot of days off :embarasse ooops.
Pain - went a bit mad in the garden yesterday and now back aching but hopefully thats normal aching not nerve pinching pain as before:o
9 days to go to the end of the month. I am a little optimistic that we could end up better off than I thought. I don't want to count chickens and all that but it may not be as doom and gloom as I thought. DH now wants a week in the sun next month. HE who sits with long trousers t shirts and hat in the sun now wants a beach week. After all his hard work up the ladder I can't say no.0 -
numptyknownothing wrote: »Now my fellow MFW'ites - I have a moral dilemma. I've been seeing someone about my back and knee pain. They think I've paid for the sessions, I can't find the payment. I have mentioned it once already and she is convinced I am in credit for several more sessions. I'll look closely again but the amount does not tally with anything I can find. Do I tell her again or wait for her to find out or is it a bank error? I'm keeping the money aside.
I guess this depends on your morals.. I would personally make sure that she was right and I had paid the money to her, just for my own piece of mind.
If she is a small business then this may really affect her profits and in this world we need to help out small businesses where we can.
If you bring it up again and she still refuses to accept you haven't paid then I guess you've done as much as you can. Is it possible you paid in cash? or that you paid for a few sessions together and that's why you can't find it?Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0 -
Yes she is a one-woman-band which is why I am keen to make sure she gets her money. I think I will mention it again and then I will feel at peace with my conscience
I'm struggling to think of money saving efforts I've made in the last few days. We replaced the tele box with a far more sophisticated thingy (and far more expensive). We sorted it out this morning so we are back in the media world but I'm not sure that's a good thing. I then spent all afternoon dozing on the sofa. DH did his signature dish Spag Bol. Thug apples again stewed with a dash of sherry this time served with vanilla ice cream - absolutely lovely.
Will be investigating a cheap week away. I will hunt out a bargain and that will satisfy my MSE ethos. I think the sun will do us both good and if we go for a week we might even get a few bits done at home as well. All good intentions - I remember something about a road to hell being paved.......:o0 -
So back from seeing the wandering clouds. Have spent some but saved myself from buying in the charity shops as well. Will recycle some curtains from the loft for the front door. Or have half a roll that I can make a new one. I bought a whole roll and have made lovely curtains for the shabby chic bedroom. Was wondering what to do with the rest. The sewing machine will be busy - when I dust it off.
Pleasure - I'm away at the end of the month so have updated my signature today - now under 130k oweing :T Also the speeding camera was not for me - hurrah but will be more careful.
Pain - that new phone needed an update. I plugged it in to my computer and its has gone back to factory settings and won't now recognise my sim card. Blooming technology (nothing to do with my lack of understanding)
I will be stewing more apples later. I think some dried fruit and alcohol will be in order. Soak the fruit in dark rum perhaps and then stew together. The sherry worked well last time0
