September 2012 Grocery Challenge

Ok so groceries for last month went slightly off course! I am struggling with the 4 week / 5 week thing, so what I've decided to do is use the 4 weeks when the WTC goes in and use this for groceries. So grocery amount from 14th Sept - 12th Oct is £295.30 - about £70 per week (this is a lot less to what I've been using!) and have so far used £79.50 second purse (last two weeks second purse spendings), £16.60 veg box and eggs, £11.88 tesco (bits and bobs!), £25 second purse (this weeks). Going to try to take out second purse money on a weekly basis now.
So amount left is £168.88 (doesn't quite add up but that's what is in grocery account at the moment!).
Well we'll see how it goes! Might have to raid second purse for the 4th weeks groceries, but that seems ok to me.
Oh and to Budgie - I've also been reading the Elite thread a lot and so got slightly sidetracked away from grocery challenge too! Its addictive reading!:)Oct grocery budget £368.40 / 6000 -
OMG am at £426.49 of £450 already, still got to get to the end of next weekend!
But I have everything I should I need for the rest of this month barring fruit, milk, sandwich fillings and emergencies.....
I am also stocked up on wine to keep me going into November and I should have enough biscuits & crisps to the end of Oct, along with various other bits & pieces....
Those of you that put red lentils in to mince dishes - do you cook them first or add them in dry?
I add mine in dry0 -
Nipped in Sainsbobs last week (don't usually go in there but the little Mr T near me didn't stock the item I wanted), and I got a £6off a £30 shop voucher. So, I went and did my weekly shop in there yesterday to spend the voucher, and guess what - I got another one from the till too! Well impressed.
I'm now up to £182.21 with less than a week to go with only milk and a few veg to buy next week, so should come under budget this month. Because I used my Sainsbobs voucher I've even managed to start my Christmas stash (bought a bottle of wine to stash away) and will hopefully be able to buy something each week to put away.
We've changed our energy supplier this week too so have saved some money there. x0 -
Stopped by MrS for milk today - £173.75/£200 now. Bound to go over when I do the weekly shop and that's without it being a 5 week month so another weekly shop on top of that to go yet.
Oh dear! Been GCing for 3 months now but no clear plan on how to reduce. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -
Another shop yesterday and GC now stands at £126-51 so looking pretty good with just 9 days left. Mind you have been trying to use up stuff from the freezers and have been fairly successful.
Accidentally picked up smoked bacon last week instead of ordinary but it got used up and I made doubly sure that this week I got it right.
Brought £40 of meat today from a local supplier and in that there was 5kg chicken breasts for £22 (23 portions so just under £1 each) - 2 kg mince beef , 2 lamb shanks and some chicken wings. Will charge myself for it as and when I use it but must remember it is in the freezer and not keep buying more.
Will need some fruit & veg tomorrow.MARCH £62.38/2500 -

Me too. Just add a little extra liquid than you would otherwise do as get absorb a lot as they cook.
Hope everyone is well. Nice to see some new additions to the grocery challenge :A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Can anyone let me know if we have a replacement for Helenjelly and her magic works?
Thank you kindly. A PM would be really helpful and please copy in Pink winged.

Two top up shops this week, Mr T and Asda too. The youngest and hubby down with flu/lurgy, eating everything..and then nothing.
Glad to see this 5 week thing is troubling more than me!0 -
... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
