Thanks for all your help, I'm feeling human again, just used up the last of my calories on a slice of brown bread with a slice of thin ham and some cherry tomatoes and cucumber and a nice big cup of tea.

Was wondering, for the past few weeks (to save some cash and make my sunday lunch meat & veg go further) I've been boiling up my chicken carcass and making a delicious soup from the stock, adding carrots, potatoes, leeks, swede and parsnip. Would this be ok to eat on my fast day? I have no way of working out the calorie content as I dont know what the chicken carcass stock would contain...

    Any thoughts?

Yes to soup. I've been doing 4:3 since August and the mainstay of my restricted calorie days are home made soups. as long as you let the stock go cold and remove the fat from top I think stock will have very few calories in it. I count 50. I do weigh the veg I add and calorie count it. I make them in batches and freeze in meal size portions each around 150 cals. You get big portions too. In freezer at the moment are Turkey Vegetable (Xmas leftovers) & tomato/red pepper & mixed bean (made yesterday for variety!! I have lost 21lbs since august and my health is much improved.
    :T2013...nothing..still hoping though!!

Yes, quite high in carbs, porridge for breakfast, sandwich for lunch and something with pasta / potatoes for tea....I need to change this on the non fast days too I imagine?

    I wouldn't.
I nealy always have porridge or breakfast cereals on 'feast' days and often pasta , potatoes or rice like the rest of my family too.

I wish people stopped demonising carbs; potatoes or whole gain cereals are not that bad at all. It's all the super refined stuff and added corn syrup vrap you need to watch out for.

And I would definitely stay away from Atkins style diet after reading the new scientist; it looks like we eat far more protein than we need.

To be fair, nobody was demonising carbs. We simply established that Timeou's headache was probably due to carb withdrawal. In which case, easing off the carbs a little would probably help ensure that the headaches don't re-appear each fast day.

I think low carb diets may be a touchy subject? But you know, they aren't based on voodoo or superstition, there is a lot of research behind them ;).
I am a big fan of low carb eating, mainly as my son is a type 1 diabetic so I had to learn a lot about it all very quickly. I agree that whole grains aren't bad at all, and most carbs aren't, in moderation... but, we don't 'need' them (human evolution has proven that!), so cutting them out isn't a bad thing either.

Ha ha! As a 6'4" bloke, I should be eating 550 calories on my fast days. My 5'6" wife should be eating 385.
    Are you sure - I get 750 and I am only 6'!

Surviving lol, can't remember the last time I felt truly hungry like this. It makes you realise how lucky we are when there's so many in the world with limited food.

Anyway, had a mug shot at lunch time which was delicious lol, mid afternoon a cup of black coffee which gave me the shakes and a funny head. Got in from work and had a shape yoghurt which leaves me about 180 calls left for later. I seem to have passed the hunger point at the moment but have had a wooly/slight headache all day.

I'm hoping the fast days will get easier to be honest...:)

I do daily 16 hour fasts, and if you look back at my posts in this thread I felt terrible at first, wooly headed etc, but once I'd been doing it a few days I was fine :)

    Yes, unfortunately. :o

I think you may be a bit heavier and/or more active than me.

This diet is about cutting calories on "light" days not banning fats, carbs or sugars unless we decide that's our way. Nothing stopping anyone from having cereals i.e carbs morning, noon & night as long as they stick to their 500/600 count. In fact, that might be nice 1 day a week, nice & easy.

Oh dear, this is all getting a little silly now. Of course no one is stopping anyone from eating carbs, or any other type of food. No one on this thread has ever said that people shouldn't eat carbs, it's just a shame that people can't even mention low carb diets without someone having a hissy, which then leads to discussions like this. It happens on every thread, every time!

250lbs and 60mins exerises 4 times a week at minimum.

BTW (not aimed at G&D) the books and downloads (there are several by different authors) came out after the program and is only someone's interpretation of what was on the show. So anyone who is using them as official rues to tell others on this thread they are doing it wrongly is mistaken. I have not been so upset since I found out they had taken the word gullible out of the dictionary.
