A low carb diet doesn't suit everyone but it's worth a try.

Replace some of the carb calories with protein and fats and see how you get on.

Check out some labels of what you usually buy. Low fat usually means higher sugar.

    Hi Guys,

I was just going to mention carb withdrawal! I ended yesterday with a splitting headache, the kind that I remember from the first few days of Atkins. Ended up breaking my calorie limit by scoffing a couple of my son's breakfast biscuits (55 cals each) to try and ease it :o. I don't generally eat that many carbs anyway as I am a fan of low carb eating, but I've definitely been eating a lot more carbs than usual over the holidays.
I think limiting carbs a little on non fast days is definitely a good idea and something I'm planning on doing, as I really don't want to spend each fast day battling a headache as well as hunger!

Well today I'm feeling pretty liberated! It's a lovely feeling to know that you can eat whatever you want as you've already done the hard work on the fast day, lol. I treated myself to a spaghetti carbonara ready meal today - something I would never have had before as there were around 670 cals in it. It's not going to become a regular thing, but it's lovely to know that I can have things like that if I want. Looking back, my first fast day wasn't that bad, and I'm actually looking forward to doing it again! I'm thinking of doing it again on Sun now and starting to do 'one day on, two days off'.

Ooh, and I bought the kindle book (thanks Sammyjammy! :T). I was working my way through it last night and it advised to figure out your own fast day cal requirement. Luckily I'm taller than most women and quite active so I can have just over 600 cals now!!! Very pleased :D

Decaff coffee would be better, caffine can give you that tipsy feeling at times.
As Mojisola says "low fat =high sugar" For a quickfix try low calorie cuppa soup, supermaket own brands are pretty good. I think chicken noodle is 57cals(light choices)be wary of salt though.
When your tummy rumbles, feel smug you must be doing it right.

Thanks for all your help, I'm feeling human again, just used up the last of my calories on a slice of brown bread with a slice of thin ham and some cherry tomatoes and cucumber and a nice big cup of tea.

Was wondering, for the past few weeks (to save some cash and make my sunday lunch meat & veg go further) I've been boiling up my chicken carcass and making a delicious soup from the stock, adding carrots, potatoes, leeks, swede and parsnip. Would this be ok to eat on my fast day? I have no way of working out the calorie content as I dont know what the chicken carcass stock would contain...

    Any thoughts?

Hope this helps - please don't hate me if you find you should actually be eating less cals :o lol.

Ha ha! As a 6'4" bloke, I should be eating 550 calories on my fast days. My 5'6" wife should be eating 385.

Yes eat it! Filling and nutritious :j. I would imagine its quite low but you probably can work it out, have you tried using my fitness pal? You can work it out for the whole potful and just divide into however many portions you like.

If you really can't I would say you were pretty safe allowing 150 calories for a big bowlful. If you skim all the fat from the stock then probably half of that.

I was going to say that I think the coffee would have been playing a huge part in the headache/shakes thing. I can't drink it at all unless I have food in my stomach or I get like that.

I didnt mangage to stick to the 500 cal yesterday but am finding that I am enjoying fasting every morning which is hopefully giving my body that time to kick in with the repair hormones as that is what I mainly need. I'm trying to last as long as possible each day before I eat and then when I do try to keep it healthy and low cal (using Myfitnespal).

I am actually enjoying the feel of hunger pains and not being scared of them anymore as all the old diet info would have told you this was a bad thing. If you think about people in poor countries - they may have health problems due to poor nutrition but they are still alive on that few calories, so we really do overeat in this country.

My 2 yr old son will only eat small amounts occasionally and that used to worry me but he has loads of energy and is very healthy so obviously he is doing the right thing for him and due to knowing about this diet I am not worrying so much. He has some days where he eats loads so he must be very tuned into his body's needs. I just try to make sure that what he does have is healthy i.e fruit, veg, full fat yogs etc and pasta. Also he's a cheese-aholic :)

not done a fast day from before christmas, I'm starting again on monday and can't wait. Just compiling my shopping list. Going to eat my last meal at 6 tomorrow then not have anything except my 500 cals allowance the next day. Not tried this way before always ate what I wanted till bedtime. Have also just ordered Dr Moseleys new 5.2 book that comes out on the 10th of Jan. Hopefully there are some nice easy recepies in there.
    HOW MUCH ?
