Thanks you two :) I'll pop in to Holland & Barrett tomorrow and see what they've got.

I heard the Radio 4 programme too. What they didn't seem to take into account was that we do lose weight, stay on this diet for months without problems and don't put back all (plus more) weight lost. I don't know about the health benefits yet as haven't had any blood tests but I am slimmer which must be a good thing.

We all seem to find that our appetites are much small after doing 5:2 for a few weeks so are eating less without really feeling hard done by because we can't have something.

I can see us doing variations of this - 6:1, 5:2, 4:3 - for the rest of our lives.

Are there any other eating systems/diets that allow you to go out for meals, indulge whilst on holiday, have a drink etc. and still see the lbs melting away? None I've heard of apart from this.

Well done to all of us that had the good sense to try it.

What do you mean by eat healthy? It sounds like you're not eating enough protein - and you're also overdoing cardio. Your husband seems to be eating enough to build some muscle (or at least preserve what he has), which increases/maintains his metabolic rate, so he can lose fat. You, on the other hand, with lots of cardio and no strength training, and with a "healthy" diet based on carbs, are likely losing muscle mass, slowing your metabolism, and putting on fat (your weight may be the same, but your body composition is worsening).

Now, if I'm off the mark about your diet, I apologise - I am extrapolating based on the results you and your husband have achieved. If you do already eat enough protein, healthy fats and colourful vegetables, then I'm not sure why you're not losing weight.

Regarding the 5:2 and TTC, I don't see why it would be a problem - as long as you are eating enough (and good quality) on the non-fast days. I would make sure to hit the recommended calories for your height/age (there are a few calculators posted on the thread) and up the meat/fish/eggs and veggies every day of the 5.

    Good luck!

You could be right, I do love my carbs :o. I try to eat a reasonable amount of protein (last night I had chicken and mushroom pie with filo pastry for example) but maybe not enough, I measure things using My FitnessPal and I know its not always accurate.

However I'm as of today I'm on the 5:2 bandwagon! I've had two cups of tea for breakfast (can't cope without, even though its decaff free these days!) I'm planning some veggies for lunch and a BIT of the soya cottage pie I'm making for us for dinner. I hope I don't feint :rotfl:

Fast day today just knocking up a batch of soup , and for the evening meal I hope to be having Coley marinaded in lime and galic, on a bed of spinach with butternut and brown rice.
Happy fasting and hope the scales have gone down or stayed the same tomorrow :)

I've stalled on the same weight for several weeks now, despite being careful to do everything right. Rather frustrating!
I guess I'll try 4:3 for a while, and see if that makes any difference.

    Hi everyone,

I've been doing the 5:2 diet for a while now (this being my 6th week), and although I didn't weigh my self beforehand and never do I have definitely lost inches! I have given up full fat coke completely replacing it with water which helped a lot but have noticed I got a lot of my calories via the coke. I now struggle to eat more than 1200 calories on a normal day which puts things into perspective.

Today's my 12th (I think) fast and as I work in a school I am now on 2 weeks off. Sounds great but I'm finding myself thinking about food a lot more than usual. How do people handle the 5:2 whilst on holiday?

Today's plan is to have some soup 87cals and maybe a chicken salad. But I'm trying to stick to tea and water till 4.30ish.

Must admit I love this eating plan but haven't had really any comments which makes me wonder if the results are all in my head sometimes! :)

I've fasted today. Had some wheat crackers and a Dairylea light triangle, half a can of chicken soup and just finished off an omelette with tomato, dried herbs, chorizo, smoked salmon and salad leaves. Was delicious!

Going to get the stuff I need for that Stew so I can have that on Saturday.

    Happy fasting folks! :)

Evening all! I'm back from my lovely hols but have been lost for a few days under a mountain of washing. I managed to stick to the 5:2 while away and had 4 fast days, but oh so many naughty days in between, where chocolate, takeaway and fish and chips featured highly on the menus.

I know I should feel bad but at least I managed to fast. However, we have to face the scales again on Saturday after missing 2 weigh ins, so I'm more than a little apprehensive as I haven't dared to get on them since my last weigh in. On the bright side I'm still 2/3 holes in on my jeans belt and my DH is looking quite lean, but this may all be wishful thinking. Plus we are out to dinner tomorrow night.

Today has been my 20th fast day and I haven't found it that easy, I feel so cold all the time and wish the weather would warm up a bit. I have enough calories left for a hot chocolate before bed and I think it will be early tonight. Another thing I have noticed is that I no longer get those nagging headaches I was plagued with when I started the 5:2:)

Well done everyone! I have been catching up on the posts and there are some really inspiring weight losses!:T

Survived my first day, got pretty hard while cooking, I like to eat things while I'm eating! I weighed my portion though and stuck to it. In all I was surprised how OK I felt, I guess its true that hunger doesn't "build". I woke this morning and felt just as I always do, and happily tucked into my porridge!
