  • Second fast day today- aiming not to eat until chicken stir fry with beansprouts for tea at about 8. I feel fine I just really struggle to drink a lot- I'm not a big drinker at the best of times.

    Any tips?

Does it matter that I'm not increasing my fluid intake past my normal daily intake (usually about 5/6 large cups of black tea- about half a pint cups)?

it's probably fine, but I always thought that you should also drink plain water as tea is a mild diuretic....

    Well done on your fast.:T

Had my first fast day yesterday and was fine. Thought I would feel hungry this morning, but I didn't, but then I do usually skip breakfast anyway.

I was interested in the post about the 16 hour fasting daily. I reckon I usually have 14 - 15 hour fasting daily, so maybe I have been doing something right all these years when everyone has been nagging me to eat breakfast.

I don't have much weight to lose, I am in the 'normal' BMI range, but I am a few pounds heavier than I like to be. I have decided to try it for the health benefits and I feel it is a routine that I will be able to adopt permanently. Monday and Thursday will be my regular fasting days - it will also benefit me to have 2 additional alcohol free days ;-)

I am also trying to drink more water but it doesn't came easy:o.
I don't really like the taste of plain water (tap or bottled) so I've been squeezing some lemon juice in it. It makes it much more drinkable! I can drink lots of it every day now.

I expect fresh lemon juice would be healthier but I've just been using juice that comes in those fun Jif plastic lemons.

Just catching up - just like to say I have been on steroid medication in the past (asthma) not long term usually 6/8 weeks when needed. I used to put on nearly a stone in 2 weeks! I'm 5'10'' & usually weighed about 10st 10lb. It made me feel so miserable and bloated but it all came off as soon as I stopped the medication. Long term Steroid treatment has many nasty side effects & I'm so relieved I don't need it any more. My weight creeping up now is due to a more sedentary lifestyle & age but I am doing something about it.

Well, you would normally have some of your water each day as part of your food, so you are getting less than you normally would. They tell sports people to keep an eye on the colour of their wee to see if they are dehydrated.

  • I'll go and check out my wee.... lol.. Do you think if you just drank more tea it would counteract the diuretic effect or am I doomed to having to drink yucky water?

Well, I thought that they had backed off a bit from the idea that tea is diuretic

Mmmm interesting take on it, I would've thought maybe if they don't excercise enough could play a factor, or certain medication could play a factor ...or any other of a myriad of things ... but no ... That's a very educational comment, I'll be sure to pass that on

Yes, laws of thermodynamics are not changed because of medication. They are not changed by a lack of exercise. They are not change because an individually really really really wants to believe they are different.

I attempted a 3rd fast today, didn't really work, terrible nights sleep . Probably had circa 1000cals, be asleep by 9pm. Down 13.25 lbs since new years, which is good if slightly annoying.
