  • I had a fast day yesterday, at lunch time I had my ususal courgette noodle stir fry (loving this at the mo) and then later on I had poached egg on toast x2. I didn't feel hungry all night and came in well under 500 cals. Eggs really make me feel full. Think I have found the best way for me to do a fast day.

Have a great weekend everyone :T

Confession time, on my non fasting day yesterday I blew nearly half my calories on a big bar of chocolate with fruit and nuts, I was shocked when I logged it and saw how many it had. I came in on target but the rest of the day felt a bit like a fast day.
    That's probably why I don't count...
Just opened a Christmas box from the Hotel chocolat sale... And had lovely cheese with my soup and salad.

I watched the celebrity bake off last night!

It wasn't the most mouth watering edition of the programme though!

Funnily enough I watched that on my fast day.

To Obesecow I would say you have to eat a bit more on non fast days and definitely don't count calories. I've lost nearly a stone on this diet and on non fast days I don't pig out at all but if I want something I have it.

I think there is something a bit magical about this diet and I think by eating a healthy amount on non fast days our metabolism does not slow down so that we lose weight when we fast. If you think about it by fasting two days a week this gives us an enormous deficit of calories over a month without having to worry too much about the other days.

Some good discussion on this whole question of what are the 'rules' (or not!) for 5:2 at http://www.52fastdiet.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14 - might help!
  • I inadvertently ate an aero and drank whiskey and ginger last night. It was Saturday and feast so I'm not going to care (much).

I'm fairly new to this 5:2 way of eating. I watched the program last year and was intrigued at the benefits, especially for Alzheimer's which is on both sides of my family.

I'm not counting calories exactly on my fast days, but having more of a guestimate, does this matter? I also work 3x12 hour shifts so tend to fast on 2 consecutive shift days as I find it easier as I'm occupied most of the time, I just have a meal around midday. However I've noticed that a lot of people say fast on non-consecutive days .. again, does this matter?

    Thanks

    I don't think so.
I think I would find it hard to fast 2 days in a row... But just like I initially 'needed' 3 small meals on my fast days, it could all be a psychological hangup! In fact, from what I have read, the longer the fast the better, so if you can do it, keep it up.

    I also guestimate the calories...

  • Hiya to everyone on here, I guess I've been lurking long enough now and need to take the plunge! I watched the Horizon programme on the iPad the other night and have invested in the book so I'm armed and ready to go! My big big problem is Maltesers! I'm addicted how I'm going to get through a fast day without them remains to be seen lol but going to have to! Going on holiday in just over two weeks ( appreciate I've left it a little late for that) so a few pounds off would be nice but mainly joining for the health side of it. Makes a lot of sense to me, so, starting tomorrow which is my first fast day, I'm on board!
  • Well done and good luck Seraphin. Monday seems a popular fast day (me too) so we'll all be in it together.
