Atmosphere would be different , I agree but the landscape / flowers are stunning and the regenerated area is a delight.
  • Today was my last as an olympics games maker (posh phrase for volunteer !) at the Olympic Park. I enjoyed every minute of it and feel a bit sad that in due course the atmosphere, people, some of the buildings and the whole spirit of the place will no longer exist.

It has been an amazing experience and I know I've been privileged to be a part of it .

The Olympic park is suppose to open 18 months after the paralympics have finished.

Unfortunately I've not be able to afford the hundreds and thousands to get to see events inside the Olympic Park as I missed out in the first ballot but have managed to see road cycling and table tennis.

Personally having seen Olympic stadiums in 2 other European cities they aren't interesting if no sporting events are going on. So I would wait until some cycling, swimming or athletics are going on and get tickets to see that then visit.

Hundreds and thousands? What are you talking about? Like you, I didn't get anything in the first ballot. I got one thing (not in the Park) in the second ballot, but from May onwards, tickets were released almost daily.I've seen 7 events (and have basketball today ) and didn't pay anywhere near £100 for any of them. Saw 6 victory ceremonies too. Every event has been terrific so I'm glad I didn't give up because I never saw athletics in my price range or just spend a silly amount on one event so I couldn't see anything else. My one Olympic Park event (water polo) cost £45. The seats were excellent and I got a good look round the Park.

And Paralympic tickets were easily available for anyone who decided more than two weeks ago that they wanted to go. I got my athletics and swimming tickets in September and have topped them up with Excel tickets during the last couple of days.

I'm just really glad I didn't give up after the first ballot as so many others did despite Locog's assurance there would be plenty more tickets.

Just to update on people asking if they can visit once the games has finished, the park is going to be called the 'Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park' and it is going to be open to the public after the games.

I thought it was 18 months but that looks like 10 months. I guess they'll build some stuff, put a Starbucks in and some more stuff as well.

And I for one will doth my cap to you.

I was in the stadium on Wednesday night, and on entering and leaving the park, all of the volunteers had smiles on their faces. What a delight to see.

It would be nice of you to let us mere mortals know how you managed to get the post, and what the criteria was etc. From the beginning of course.
That's my mutt in the picture above.

I applied on-line. Waited six months to be advised I had an interview. Attended a 30 min interview and 2 weeks later was offered the role. 240,000 down to 70,000.

Criteria -they needed people to fit into the jobs they were creating (e.g. medical, foreign language speakers, semi-pro sportspeople, energetic youngsters). I had 30+ years in business and matched their criteria for someone suited to paperwork :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I didn't care what I did (apart from shifting manure at the equestrian events), just wanted to be involved.

My twin brother was a volunteer, he was at the basket ball .
I was reminded of the fact today. I was at the local scarecrow festival.
( stick with me it makes sense honest). One of the scarecrows was dressed in a genuine volunteer's outfit sitting in a wheel barrow.
Caption ... Usain Bolt got gold medals , Wot did I get for 17 days of non stop smiling .........this ghastly track suit top .

    Made me laugh.

Ps well done to all volunteer's.
