if you can't get time off, you can't get time off - that would the same situation if you could get free or cheap tickets to anywhere, wouldn't it? You can also travel to Hyde Park and see the Olympics for free on the big screens there. The road races were free to spectate at too.
I need to travel to the Olympics venues, so I need to plan in advance. So I did, and now have paralympics tickets for the Excel on one date, and the Olympic stadium for another date. The most I paid for these is £15 for an adult (the Olympic stadium ones were £10) and £5 for a child.
I was one of the late-deciders, so didn't even look for Olympic date tickets, as I knew I hadn't left enough time to get any.0 -
My in laws live in Stratford and they've been going to the Olympic park every day it's been on. They are strapped for cash so I don't imagine they have been buying tickets to get in.0

Did they win tickets perhaps? Or find a hole in the fence? You certainly can't just go in without a ticket.
As for the tickets being unaffordable - you'd have to be very strapped for cash indeed not to be able to afford a Paralympics £10 ticket. Clearly not every lives near London but then there's always the Edinburgh festival for them to enjoy :rotfl:0 -

I met up with a friend there 2 Fridays ago. We left the shopping centre walked along the road, with the aim of visiting the ticket office. Literally got 3 steps onto a road that looked as if it would lead to an entrance and got stopped, told "no pass, so you can progress any further". Did explain we were jut walking up to see the entrance, but the security would not let two 50 year olds past, stood in front of us and we were told to leave. They were very unfriendly about it. I remember visiting the Olympic village in Munich with my parents after the terrorists and we did not have this problem.
Out of the 250 people at work, I only now of one person whom visited, but he got 2 free tickets, but could not find anyone to go with him, so the olympic spin was generally not as good as one would hope for, and left me with a bitter taste too.0 -
The entrance is quite away from the shopping area and past security so you wouldn't see anything by getting nearer.
Security is security I'm afraid and if they were firm about that then I feel happier as a ticket holder as thay are doing their job.
We've got para athletic tickets for next month @ £10 and £5, brilliant day out coming our way and didn't break the bank.0 -
We paid £10 for us and £5 for the kids for the para athletics finals - and got free travelcards as well. Bargain - costs us more than that to go to the cinema these days.
They are also offering hugely discounted travel tickets if you need to travel from further afield and 1st class for us to get the entire family into London (half hour on fast train) is just £10 return for all 4 of us - we are driving to a family members who leaves within the travelcard zone - and parking there but if we did not, that is an absolute bargain as well.0 -
The Olympic park is suppose to open 18 months after the paralympics have finished.
Unfortunately I've not be able to afford the hundreds and thousands to get to see events inside the Olympic Park as I missed out in the first ballot but have managed to see road cycling and table tennis.
Personally having seen Olympic stadiums in 2 other European cities they aren't interesting if no sporting events are going on. So I would wait until some cycling, swimming or athletics are going on and get tickets to see that then visit.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

A member of my family had 'Park' tickets last week , their view was that the area was worth a visit even when entry to the events was not possible.0

I can imagine that would certainly be the case when there are events to see on the big screens, vendors around etc. But if theres nothing going on at all, the vendors won't be there, the atmosphere won't be there - would it?0 -

It has cost my family of 4, £30 to go to the Para athletics finals and £50 for the swimming finals. We also have day passes which cost £30 and are going to see the wheelchair rugby semi finals (hopefully) and have a mooch around the park.
How is that 'hundreds and thousands of pounds'? Unless of course, watching the Paralympians compete is not good enough for you. There were £10 tickets for the Paras available just a few days ago as my friend bought some.
ETA: And we got free travelcards so we are going to go out for the day after the athletics too. They are worth £10 on their own from where we are travelling from.0
