Another few pages of twaddle without further advice.....
Giving up the car is not an option as the OP is in a 3 year contract. We've established that much so we can stop discussing it now.
I actually think the OP has quite a lot of disposable income. Not having a go at you chrissie btw. But you have more than most on benefits. Why shouldn't you take advantage of a system when you need it when you've paid in most of your life. You're obviously needing the help now or you wouldn't be getting it.
Have you contacted the water board in question to see if there's any form of rebate for people with disabilities? Again this is something I've not heard of, but then I'd never heard of water rates as high as yours being from the cold, wet north
Have you contacted the debt companies to see if they will accept some sort of reduced payment until your husband gets back to working?
These are the main things I can suggest. Alongside cutting down on the power you are using as much as you can.
I have contacted the water board and they are sending me a form which is for lower payments and rebates for the disabled so hopefully that will get sorted, I am having the pre payment gas and electricity meters removed and have monthly bills, I've no idea if this will help but someone said it is more expensive to have pre payment meters.
I have been told by the money advice lady at the HA to stop paying the loan altogether as all that will happen us it will go to a debt collection agency then court and the court will make an order for a much reduced payment, so that's what I intend to do.not all on benefits are scroungers and don't need to be bullied!0 -
FBaby, If I 'twisted' your words then I apologise...but in view of many of your previous posts on this board...I assumed you were simply running true to form...my mistake.Disabled people have become easy scapegoats in this age of austerity.

She is not tied to motability for three years, they allow you to break the contract under certain circumstances and financial hardship is one of these circumstances.
Things have changed very much in relation to motability in recent years including the above and the number of miles allowed per year (from 12 to 20 thousand) and even the amount of HRM DLA needed to take out a motability contract which used to be three years and now it is just one year.0 -
high right disability care (I won't include mobility as you went for the car option) is apporx £77 a week, that's £308 you didn't declare in your original posts. Do your prescriptions, laundry powders and mattress protectors really cost that a month? I really think you could easily make extra disposable 'income' if that's what you want.'No one can make you feel bad without your permission'

It would be nice to know which you refer to, maybe these were also misinterpreted -or maybe I dont' express myself well and it comes out differently to what I intend to communicate.
I thought my view on this thread was clear that I don't have an issue with Chrissie (or anyone else) claiming motability, what botheres me is when it is considered an entitlement rather than a choice and accepting therefore that other non essentials costs might have to be lowered. I also have an issue with people entitled to motability defending that it doesn't benefit the whole family. It ultimately does. With young children, there is no doubt that being able to use the car to take her mum and do her shopping at the same time is of benefit to Chrissie's daughter. Similarly, if her husband is using the car to take Chrissie to visit family for exemple, it will save his cost of public transport if they didn't have the car.
I AM NOT SAYING IT IS WRONG... what I am saying is that having the car is a choice, and it is a choice that will benefit the family as a whole, meaning that ultimately, it will come with sacrifices elsewhere. Chrissie made it very clear that she doesn't want to give it up, and there is nothing wrong with this at all. It is HER choice. But it is frustrating to read that because of this choice, she feels that her income is such that she should be able to receive more benefits (ie.housing benefits taking outgoings into consideration).
We all have to make choices at one level or another even those who are not financially struggling, so that they don't end up doing so.0 -
Chrissy - glad to see youve got onto the Water board. Im under Seven Trent Water and know that they used to operate a hardship grant that was for help with paying ANY bills, not just the water one. You have to go through to the collections department and speak to them and ask if they have anything similar in your area. Here they send you a form and you fill it out with all your expenditure and debts owed etc and they will send you back a decision. A friend of mine got £300 last year. Its not advertised anywhere.
Did the BT Basic package apply to you?
If you need internet, GiffGaff do a dongle package for £5pm. If you want me to refer you i will as you (and me) will get £5 free credit. Its a PAYG thing so you can use as and when you need to.

Thank you Chrissie for updating us. It goes to show that you have been reading the advice on here and by listening to the "money advice lady" Wonder if that's her job title
Someone else pointed out that these meters don't charge you extra now, but economising on them should save a wee bit too. Easier to do in the summer of course4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -

When your meters have been changed, have a look back at your usage, you may be able to change to a cheaper tariff.
Also it is well worth looking around at other companies, and dual fuel/ direct debit discounts. When you add all the savings up you could save a couple of hundred pounds a year - that's a lot!0
