If I gave up the car and had the money instead you would shout I was getting free money, if you are spouting the good old saying we, the tax payers are paying for your car, well my husband is a tax payer, my two sons are tax payers, my son in law is a tax payer and my daughter in law is a tax payer so if it makes you feel better just think that its their tax money that's used to pay for disability.
I don't, in all honesty, give a fig what you spend money on.
I do however think lots of people think you need to take a step back and be a little more objective about your position.
Imagine if there were no benefits for disability and you only had your husbands medical suspension money to live on, and he had to support the both of you (in sickness and in health) imagine how bad that would be.0 -
You keep twisting things around for your convenience. Now DLA is excluded from your income because it is for of your disability only. On that basis, people with children should exclude child benefit from the income they claim they have, or child tax credits, or the free school meals etc... because it is all for the benefit of the children...
Your DD is being nice and gives you £10 a week, but funilly enough, it goes for the petrol cost rather than the water bills... but she doesn't use the car at all for her own benefit... sorry but I struggle to believe that bit especially when she happens to have three young children...0 -

Well sorry to cause you so much struggle in your beliefs, I cannot see what her having 3 small children has to do with it.... Ah yes I do, because she helps towards petrol, that means she must use it to take the kids on outings, well yes they get in the car when I go shopping, they get in the car when I want to go on a day out somewhere, they don't get in the car when I'm not there because she doesn't use it when I'm not there, and to be perfectly honest it makes no difference to me wether you believe it or not, you can think what you like as I know the truth and that's all that mattersnot all on benefits are scroungers and don't need to be bullied!0 -
Oh and how am I twisting things for my convienience? DLA is used for my disability, I have no idea why you brought child benefit into things as that's a completely different benefit and those who claim it can use it for whatever they wish, its not a benefit for making life just that little bit easier due to being disabled.not all on benefits are scroungers and don't need to be bullied!0

you just don't get it.... we are trying to make you see that the arguments you are disputing it could be the same just about any family could put forward, that is that you are no different to any other family. In your case, you get DLA because of your disability, other family get CB because of their children. Whatever the reason for getting these benefits, it IS STILL INCOME!
As for your daughter, I am trying to use logic. If her children are there all day with you, they will be much more likely to be using more water then if they werent, so surely, if anything, your daughter should be contributing towards these costs, rather than costs that she has no benefits from.
And no offense, but a 'day out somewhere' surely is a luxury?0 -
Water is one utility that always has to come from income regardless of where that income comes from. So it will never be taken into consideration where benefits are concerned.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0

If you are talking about my DLA that is not taken into consideration by any government body, that money is for my care needs, things for my disibility if I were to say I use it to pay loans or HP you would be shouting that it's not the intended purpose that I'm claiming DLA and using it wrongly I am committing fraud, you can't have it both ways
No, it's not taken into consideration for benefit purposes, but it is still money you get "in the hand". If you want folk to get a true picture of the situation you're complaining about, then ALL income, regardless of where it comes from, should be included in your calculations. I could say that oh and myself only get £xxx per week from our state pensions, then proceed to moan about it, but it wouldn't be the complete "truth" as oh gets a small private pension as well, so that has to be factored into any calculations on income.
So would income from shares, dividends etc, it's what actually comes "through the door" that counts, and that should include everything! What you then choose to spend it on is a different matter.0 -
I'm amazed you are able to quantify your additional costs, for being disabled, and that they are exactly, or more than you receive as DLA!
And am I mistaken, or weren't you going to set up your own business earlier this year, and you were pleased that you would get a grant towards that?
We've come a long way from the Poorhouse, thank God, but lots of us would like to have other extras in our lives, but we don't have the money to cover them, or, we don't want to do without the things which could fund them.
I think people have been really helpful by suggesting savings you could make and I'm amazed by how much assistance others give, quoting websites that might be useful etc.
Don't you?

OP - please see post 82 - that was a good idea. You need to work out your finances for you - it doesn't matter a fig what anyone else thinks - if you're trying to win some 'argument' or other - you won't - don't rise to it and walk away
Like i said earlier - good luck getting sorted.x0 -

Yes you are totally mistaken that I was going to set up my own business and pleased to get a grant, if you are going to rifle through my profile to try and dig dirt then please read properly, I stated that SOMEONE I know wants to start her own business and are there any grants available from the DWP.
And I have taken on board the advice and followed some of it, yet again I will say it, my phone and Internet have now gone and so has sky, but having said that all some are interested in is me giving up my mobtorbility car.not all on benefits are scroungers and don't need to be bullied!0
