Yes you are totally mistaken that I was going to set up my own business and pleased to get a grant, if you are going to rifle through my profile to try and dig dirt then please read properly, I stated that SOMEONE I know wants to start her own business and are there any grants available from the DWP..
Nobody's trying to dig up dirt, and it would appear you've forgotten what you posted:
I had my first interview last tues and I was dreading it, (snipped)
I told her I have an idea for a home based business which I could do at my own pace and have family around to help and she said they could help me get a grant to buy equipment, pay for a website to be built, help with advertising and make sure I had money to live on while the business was being built up, so my fear of going was unfounded and it actually turned out to be very worthwhile.
No mention of "someone", just "I", isn't it?

My mistake I thought you were referring to another post where I asked about a grant for someone else. Yes the above is what the advisor told me, that was the first interview in may or June I can't remember, I have not got another interview untill the end of October so don't know what will happen as she told me the next one will be phone based.not all on benefits are scroungers and don't need to be bullied!0 -
So disabled people are not ALLOWED a day out now FBaby or is that 'luxury' allowed sometimes?.
And we go again, twisting words to make it that a poster says something that didn't even come to their mind so they can play the victim to horrible spiteful person...
I never said that disabled people couldn't enjoy a day out, and that certainly wasn't the intentions of my post. The comment was in relation to Chrissie stating that she doesn't receive enough benefit to pay for essentials, and that she needs her car for medical appointments and other essentials. My pointing that a day out was a luxury was to point out that clearly she doesn't spend all her money on essentials only.
The debate as to whether benefits should pay for such luxuries as days out is another one, one that is not related to disability specifically as many could claim that they should be allowed a day out for many various reasons, unfortunately, for some, it is not something they can financially afford.0 -

He has 3 hospital appointments next week, all involving a 20 mile round trip, and had to visit the GP surgery 3 times last week. Even the GP surgery is about 50 times further than he can walk.
We have to manage don't we?
Life is possible without a car you know, especially without a car paid for by other taxpayers struggling with mobility problems themselves.
No, it was you that seemed to think that paying income tax mattered. I was just replying to your statement above and stating that not all disabled people in receipt of mobility are non taxpayers.
If someone was on DLA low rate care and high rate mobility they would be in receipt of £74.60 per week...AA is £77.45 per week...so the value of AA in that situation is more. I am sure there are many who only receive low or middle rate care who believe they should be on high rate and some who would say if you have a partner who lives in and provides care and you do not need to pay for care...then the benefits should reflect this..and round and round we go!
My mum worked until she was 74 and only had mobility needs for the last few years of her life...she died 5 days short of her 86th birthday...so I understand about not all over 65's having mobility problems...not sure of the answer to that one, but, yes, it could and should be made fairer.
I agree the present system is not working and needs to be changed...this is in the process of happening and we can only wait and see how it will all turn out in practice.
Pleased to hear you get the 'odd kiss now and then'...there are some things you just cannot put a price on:)Disabled people have become easy scapegoats in this age of austerity.

Another few pages of twaddle without further advice.....
Giving up the car is not an option as the OP is in a 3 year contract. We've established that much so we can stop discussing it now.
I actually think the OP has quite a lot of disposable income. Not having a go at you chrissie btw. But you have more than most on benefits. Why shouldn't you take advantage of a system when you need it when you've paid in most of your life. You're obviously needing the help now or you wouldn't be getting it.
Have you contacted the water board in question to see if there's any form of rebate for people with disabilities? Again this is something I've not heard of, but then I'd never heard of water rates as high as yours being from the cold, wet north
Have you contacted the debt companies to see if they will accept some sort of reduced payment until your husband gets back to working?
These are the main things I can suggest. Alongside cutting down on the power you are using as much as you can.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
I have been told the law states a couple needs £112 a week to live on, take my £96 a week rent from that and it leaves £16 for food, that's it
That is for benefit purposes and the rent would not come out of that amount.
If someone's only income as a couple was £112, they would receive full housing benefit.Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.0 -

In your case, you get DLA because of your disability, other family get CB because of their children. Whatever the reason for getting these benefits, it IS STILL INCOME!
I believe there is also ESA to add to the OP's income too.Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. So disabled people are not ALLOWED a day out now FBaby or is that 'luxury' allowed sometimes? should that include disabled children also? does that apply to all disabled people? or does it apply just to this specific poster?
The ignorant, judgemental attitudes displayed on this forum are at times beyond belief.
It is the same posters time after time who 'gang up' and bully...always thanking each other and fawning around each others posts...sick!
Like I have said before 'those who know the least, judge the most'.
I think, for anyone struggling with money - disabled or not - a day out can very well be a luxury depending on how much money one spends.
What we have no idea of is, where the OP would go, how much it would cost and whether or not it came out of their income.
The statement in general is true though. for anyone really struggling, as nice as a day out is, if it costs money it is a luxury that is not needed.
I would hope that FBaby was not making that comment with view that all disabled people should remain in the home. I don't believe that to be the case though, I felt it was more to do with financial struggle than staying at home through disability.Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. So hopefully you'll be able to get your business going, and then you'll have more income. I hope things do work out for you, and regarding your error, we can all make mistakes.
