    Hi Loraine

Here's an excellent Marguerite Patten recipe for American Cookies, from her excellent Basic Basics: Baking Handbook.

2oz good quality plain choc or choc chips (NOTE: if you are using block choc then cut it on a board with a knife, don't use a processor as this changes the consistency and makes for a yucky dough)

    3oz unsalted butter
    2 oz caster sigar
    few drops vanilla extract
4 oz SR flour (or plain with 1 tspn baking powder)

1.Preheat the oven to 160C(Gas Mark 3). Grease two trays, or line with baking parchment if you've got some.
2.Cream butter &h sugar until soft then add sifted flour
    3. Stir in the chocolate chips, then mix with your fingers until you get a kind of pliable dough.
    4. Divide mixture into 12 - 16 equal sized portions, rolling each one into a ball.
    5. Place on baking trays, leaving MASSES of space between them.... the dough sinks into a flat blob and spreads as it cooks
    6. Cook for 11 mins if you're aiming for American cookies (i.e. firm on the outise, soft & chewy on the inside) or up to 15 mins for English cookies (crisp).
    7. Leave on a baking tray to cool. They will crisp up more as they cool.

Yum. Think I might make some tomorrow.

Hello every-one. I have been so busy today that i didnt manage to find time to post a morning hello.I gave my kitchen a good all over lclean and also scrubbed the bunnies hutch. I am off in 10 minutes to help at brownies. My Dd`s go there. Tonight is a "fashion" night and neither daughter are keen on doing this. I also have to take ds with me as hubby is still at work. Cant wait until all the kids are bed time and i can hopefully put my feet up. Its been such a hectic day! Hugs to all, Love Elaine

    Hi everyone,

    Csarina, hugs.
Snowy, Fingers crossed that today was better than you thought it would be.
Mrs Mix, I hope the scan went well.
Clairefun, It's good to see you posting again.
Haribo, sorry about the phone Ds1 had unplugged it last night and the charge has gone.
Crazychick, congrats on your 1000th post. :j

Late posting today because I had a late start. Mr Pink did all the school stuff and let me have a lie in this morning and I didn't waken until 11.45am! It was sheer bliss, but I've ended up being behind all day. It didn't help just when I was getting on top of things that dd came home from school and announced that she had been asked to work this evening from 5pm to 8pm (we don't normally allow her to work mid-week) so I had to rustle up a meal for her quickly and give her a lift into town. Why oh why do kids always leave things to the last minute?

Off to make tea shortly......left over roast from yesterday. I had planned to do something interesting with it but I think at this stage it's just going to be a reaheated roast.

I hope you all have a good evening.

hi all, just thought I,d pop in and see what this thread,s all about. See some people have had an even worse day than me, and some (moggins) have defo had a better day. I got up for work at 04.30 and instead of the 20 minute walk, one of the guys in my work was passing and picked me up, good start eh! I was really tierd this morning as the time change and the fact that I slept way too late on Sunday morning messed up my bodyclock. Got into work to discover that I,d forgotten I had swapped days off with another guy and this was mine. I tried to go home and sleep but mad cat wanted to bite my toes (bored) so up I got and put him out to chase flies or whatever he chases, and half an hour later the girl downstairs opened my front door and put him back in, must have a word there. So up I got and tried to do a bit of housework, just wasnt happening. Went to Post office to post a book I,d sold on Amazon and lady charged me for package even tho I,m sure it should have been large letter, brain so mushy I didnt even argue, that wont happen again. eventually went to bed again and phone started ringing, I ignored it, then again, think my pillow, as my shower ,has a secret alarm. So got up and silenced it, back in snuggled down started to drift, MOBILE 1 went off, was a dopey guy who,s trying hard to be more than a friend killed that (phone not guy) and tried again 10 mins later MOBILE2, I,m afraid that one did lose it,s life. got an hours sleep and back up to do a bit of work on here. All this and it,s only 10 to 6
