When to declare a disability?

I know that often disabled people do not like to stand up and say "hey, this does not work" because they are frightened people will treat them negatively because of it.
Now I am a person that gets too fired up and I will jump in with both feet saying when things are not right mainly because I get very annoyed and it is a positive out let for my self hate I have of myself. To me it seems better to use that negative feeling to fight for a better world.
I don't know if hiding away or taking the fight to them is best.:beer:0 -

As I said before, the employer is required by law to add the box "are you disabled" to the application form.
This is interesting. Could you please tell me what the law is that specifies this?0 -

I am sorry that you do not see it is important to stand up for the rights of disabled people who do have a right to do almost any job with reasonable adjustments.
When the Nazis come I would if anyone will still be standing to fight for you

I do not think it is bad to stand up for the disabled - I am disabled but I get on with my life, when I was trying for a job I had no problems with the fact that I was disabled, and got very good jobs.studentphil wrote: »If you think it is bad to stand up for the rights of disabled people and judge it as a joke that is up to you.
If ever there had been an issue with discrimination then I would have dealt with it - you are looking for problems where there aren't any.
You are the joke I am afraid.
I shall not be indulging further in your posts, you are just something else.0 -
perhaps this may help you Phil

Maybe I do look for problems but I feel in myself that disability is a negative and I do worry that others might see it as negative.:beer:0 -
Maybe it is not very important to some people. But I do get upset when forms are too small that I can not fill them in or their is no place to declare my disability.
Maybe turning that bad feeling into a fight is a bad way and people probably do laugh at me, but it is better than being really upset by it all because I am a lesser person.:beer:0 -
Phil, what disability is it you have? Being unable to write small enough for forms isn't related to having problems with your legs. I can't believe this thread is four pages long, I don't think you want to work. There's plenty on this forum with real disability & they all cope, including myself. I don't have anyone to fill forms in for me! Why not spend some of the time you'd be starting pointless threads & start googling for help, have you contacted Remploy?0

If you mean there isn't enough space for you to provide the information they need, use separate sheets of paper and cross reference on the application form.
If there is no place to declare your disability, wait for the offer of an interview - unless they are "positive about disability" and use the two ticks logo (which I mentioned in my first post in this thread).0
