djpleasure, I understand some of your points. I know how good the service is and i enjoy it which is why i have now left freecycle but started on dontdumpthat.com, where i run my area and will not be sending nasty emails to those people that take the time to give their stuff away.
The point i was trying to make is that freecycle is about keeping stuff out of the landfills..and you volunteer because you want to help that cause correct?
Thats why its our job to moderate, because people do make mistakes, they should not be punished for giving their stuff away incorrectly.
If someone is banned the likely hood is they may throw the things they would have given away in the bin, sort of defeats the object doesnt it :(
There is not a short fall in volunteers in our local group over 50 people offered to help.
I will continue giving my support to this just on another site that respects its members :)

WANTED PLEASE : Nokia Mobile Phone Model 6600 or any model with Symbian
Operating System or which will take an MMC memory card (I am able to
help with identification of models). Damaged one considered. Thank you.

so no other phoine will do?
i strangly enough started collecting argos catalogues, just basically
so i can show my kidsan so on in years to come what was available in
sertain time eras, so if any one has any old argos catalogues just
taking room up i would like them especially catalogues from the 80's
    and early 90's. many thanx

didn't we have someone else looking for an argos catalogue a while back?
URGENTLY needed a copy of windows millenium edition, i have just
accidently sat on mine, and that did not do it any good, so if you have
a copy of Win ME i would greatly appreciate it, or a copy of xp would
be fine but i would prefer Win me. any way

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: i'd be unhappy if you sat on me too. lol.

What are you on about? nasty emails & banning, this is yet again pulling on a minority occurence. lets face it, your yet another failed freecycle clone, I have just signed up to several of your forums, which are as expected.....minimal members, your starting to sound like i-recycle, all that is needed now is some spamming of groups and then youve got the badge. Your too busy blowing the dontdumpthat trumpet......quoting misinformed information.

I amongst others respect our users, we poll our users, the majority are in favour of the way we run things, well with the exception of sellers & crossposters, whom life has become more difficult, so rightly they are upset.

You have experience or so you say of running a Freecycle group, yet you seam to think you can envelope them and speak of Freecycle as an entirety, yet Freecycles groups are individual and all differ somewhat.

In regard to enforcing certain policies, there has to be rules, when one day you get some members, you'll realise that, without rules, things get messy.

If you total up the sheer amount of members currently using Freecycle, although they are aware of clones like yours, then why are members sticking with us and not opting for these offshoots? I am sure you will come up with some sort of dribble about this, but the facts and figures speak for themselfs.

Trust me on one thing, the offshoot clone thing has been debated and tried many times, none have had anywhere near the success.

Also you have made many many forums for many areas, do you think that if you was successful, you could afford the bandwidth required to run 100 forums with a large user database and traffic? without sponsorship?

I tried the forum thing once, paid for my hosting, bandwidth etc, do you think there was ever any thanks? people just get in there and grab what they can, with not a thought for the work, time and money that goes into it.......hence I shut site and saved (Recycled my money)

It's hard to believe - who'd want to pay £4.99 for a 2002 copy of the Argos catalogue ?!

Im not saying all freecycle sites are like the one i helped with, in fact i am still a member of one a little further away than my local one and all the moderators are brill. It was just my particular one i had the problem with.
I was blowing off some steam so to speak after a couple of emails were send to members by fellow moderators that were very rude.
Think we will both have to agree to disagree on this one after all we are both supporting & helping the same cause just on diiferent sites. :)

    Hi All,

I am looking for a storage solution that will fit in a small garden,
for a couple of bikes, some garden chairs and a handful of tools. It
needs to be quite small and able to be broken down so that it can be
    transported in a car.

Can anyone help, currently my kitchen is housing everything and its
difficult for my pregnant gf to move around in there.

    Cheers in advance.
There always has to be a 'reason' to ask for things doesn't there - this is a novel one

I'm not sure why everybody gets wound up by specific requests. If somebody has the item and doesn't want it, it still prevents something from getting skipped (which is a good thing IMO).

Also, the lack of please/thank you in posts doesn't bother me that much, it's a concise factual request/offer and when you respond to people in person, they are usually polite.

Well we'll have to agree to differ on that one - a few manners like 'please' cost nothing whatsoever when posting for a 'wanted'
