Yep, were gonna have to agree to disagree, but seriously, having experienced problems with one group, and then posting on a busy site like this does nothing to help the cause.

My group has 3 mods and myself, one elderly chap, one Parent and one student, all loyal to the cause. We are strict with our rules, dont bend them for anyone. If we know of a seller.....they get banned, unless they have advised of their intentions, people who fail to turn up for collections with out any notification or reason get banned, those who use it as a persoanl shopping list, doing nothing other than request after request eventually get sent away or have their posting ability stopped, those who crosspost to umpteen groups get warned... the end result......a well maintained and well balanced group. As stated, the downside is limitations by using yahoo, cant ban a member properly as cant ban ip addresses, and we dont know what goes on between members unless they tell us of any problems, if they let us know, we deal with it.

There are a few groups however that as they state, let the groups run themselfs....in other words cant be arsed. Running a tight ship is more work for us, but its a whole lot fairer to the end user.

In regards to charity shops, I wish more stuff did go to them, but the majority are not allowed to take in electricals, and it is down to the person getting rid of an item to deliver to them, a lot either dont have the means to do that or they dont want the hassle, so Freecycle is an easy option as the other person has to collect. I know that near where I am, majority of charity shops have no parking available, so dropping off stuff can lead to a ticket.

Well i hope your site takes off mate, but judging by the ones i have seen so far......None actually do

Sounds like a well run freecycle group - I wish there were more of them. I think a lot here get cheesed off seeing the cheeky 'wanted' posts, shopping lists and the like. If more Mods upheld the rules, then there'd be a lot more happy freecyclers.

Thanks Pam, it is well run, although there are always gonna be rule haters. We restrict to maximum of 3 request per month, although majority do not use all 3, some not any, but it is well balanced, a lot more offers than wanteds. Well got to go....dont want to keep any messages pending too long lol
  • I blame you lot for me embarrassing myself in the local shops today. Was walking past the pound shop and noticed their entire window was full of inflatables which made me think of all the talk of them on here and made me laugh out loud! Didn't even realise until I saw the funny looks I was getting!
