Supermarket Pet Hate

Had to dash to the supermarket at lunch today and saw again something which makes my blood boil........kids standing/sitting in the trolleys.

1. It is dangerous for the kids

2. I don't want to put my shopping where anyones outdoor shoes have been as I'd really rather not have potentially dog poo etc all over my veggies!

I know I'm going to get panned by a load of parents but surely they can either sit in the allocated "trolley seat" or walk?

Tbh, I'd much rather parents kept the kids inside the trolley than walking round the store with them. Kids always trail behind, walk at the side of the trolley etc, basically taking up most of the aisle.

And 1 - I don't really see how it's dangerous for the kids?
2 - Dog poo etc on your veggies is a slim chance. The packaging, pestacides etc used on food, yuck! THAT'S something you should be worried about :(

    1. When I see them they are usually jumping about or hanging over the edge of the trolley

    2. I buy my veggies loose for the most part so no packaging

In regards to two - wash your veggies! Who knows who's touched them beforehand and what was on their fingers. After watching some of the underwear picking habits of one of the blokes at work, I would certainly be worried about what he touches in a supermarket! Not to mention the amount of bacteria on the money you'll be handed/dispended at the till if you pay by cash..

I was shopping the over evening after work, and the aisles were full of kids charging up and down them with trolleys, i'd much rather the parents shoved them in the trolley, so I could actually navigate the store without fear of being run down.

I buy my veggies and fruit loose as well, I'm happy to shove them into the trolley or basket and wash them at home :)

I suggest you fill in a 'How did we do?' slip at the customer service desk or write to the store manager. Suggest that there security guards and managers start actively stopping this rather than turning a blind eye. You have made valid reasons. There are proper seats for children to sit in they do not need to stand in the trolley.

I work in Tesco and know that these comments are taken very seriously, the fact that you were annoyed/concerned enough to write in will be important to them and will make this a higher priority than previously. I would ask them to reply to you with information on what action they will be taking.

While we're hovering around the subject of kids in supermarkets, can any parents on here explain to me why whole families go to the supermarket?

When I see one parent with kids in the supermarket, fair enough. Can't leave them at home. But why on earth do people go there with both mum and dad and the kids? Why not one of you go to the shop and the other stay at home with the kids? Drives me up the wall when I'm trying to get round the shop and there's families there mooching around like it's a day-trip out for them.

This is one of the many many reasons why I shop online and have it delivered!

I cannot stand supermarket shopping, especially in school holidays. I just don't have the patience for it!

I hate it too, but it isn't the veg that worries me it is everything else that then goes in my fridge and cupboards, although my DH says I am sure worse has happened to it before you got it! It is a pet hate and my OCD isn't logical!

What bugs me is when you go to the supermarket later on in the evening in the hope it may be a bit quieter and it is still full of kids. Why aren't they in bed?????!! I have a daughter myself and would never dream of taking her on the weekly shop at 9 at night!!
