Barclays Tax Beater Cash ISA - experiences so far (merged)

2 questions that someone might know the answer to.
1) i just opened by Tax Beater Isa with £10. Finally, it got opened & now i want to transfer in £2,990. Can i do this by electronic transfer?
2) My wife's ISA eventually arrived, but they have opened it incorrectly in a normal ISA, rather than a Tax Beater ISA. Whats the process to get it changed.
Thanks for any help.0 -

Yes, there's no problem there.... Do it online.. Enter sort code/acc number and transfer it in... double check there's no 20 apology thing in there first though (I've heard of these, although not into the ISA, but only to Barc customers via their C/A's).... If there is then you'd be over your 3k deposit..2) My wife's ISA eventually arrived, but they have opened it incorrectly in a normal ISA, rather than a Tax Beater ISA. If you've got the paper work/ref numbers, receipts to prove it then it's either letter, phone or a branch call in (they won't be able to sort it there and then though)....
Anybody else any bright ideas on that second one?0 -
"Anybody else any bright ideas on that second one?"
Mrs. steady_eddie would also be interested in an answer to this query as she is still in communication (albeit on a unilateral basis) with Barclays 3 months down the line on this issue.0 -

:rotfl: @ on a unilateral basis, i had a letter today telling me they still waiting for info from other depts ( 2 months on) so will try and reply by 6th august (3rd deadline it set itself :rotfl: )
theve said i can go to ombudsman if i wish but they hope ill wait for them to sort things out)
my issue is disadvantaged cos after giving nominal 1.00 to open the isa before start of 2007 tax year i was unable to transfer 2999 in until middle of may due to delay in giving me account details. do people think im better off waiting for barclays to answer in full or go to ombudsman now?0 -
I too have been given a normal isa instead of the Tax Beater, I went into branch where they confirmed I had applied for a Tax Beater isa and they put a complaint in for me.I recieved a letter today saying that they were very sorry but H.M.Revenue & Customs regulations say they cannot change the status of my isa. To make sure I'm not financially disadvantaged they are going to give me 18p interest !! My deposit was £10.0

Mine was exactly the same. There's myself and a few others! who've had this.. Many sorted on the boards in here though.....
I went into the branch, dealt with the same guy all the time.. He entered complaint about not having the account details, into his online internal email thingy....
I eventually got a yes on having it backdated...... Don't know if there are inland revenue rules on backdating though. If that's the case then you're knackered....0 -

i guess all they got to do is calculate what interest would have been gained had someone been able to put 2999 into the isa say a week after easter bank holiday and issue credit as interest, ive also asked for 20.00 compo for inconvenience, worry, stress etc like another poster on here got.
people who took it up with their branches have got it sorted quicker, i took it up with barclays direct as i saw it as a barclays direct issue rather than a branch issue.
For two months they been telling me "we are currently awaiting info from other areas". perhaps ive missed something to me looking to see how long it took them to issue the account details together with confirming that i did transfer 2999 in very quickly after the account details were issued doesnt seem a complex task to me. :rolleyes:0 -

No I agree, doesn't seem that hard. Quite how they found themselves shocked and overwhelmed I don't know, anybody would think that a big bank didn't know what it was doing.....
Yep, if the complaints in there, guy in branch (who I eventually gave a small box of choc to for his help....) phoned ISA dept himself... I eventually received a call from their dept and we compared the size of our backdating calculations on the phone.........
Funny though, other people who've had theirs backdated, seem to get slightly differing amounts. When it does occur, it's usually by only a penny either way, compard to other people, but there's one case in there of nearly a tenner difference (this is rates between people on the board, not between Barc and a persons own calculations). This is another story however, you just want yours acknowledging first!
If you've got a letter saying they will deal within a certain time, then you have to let that elapse before going to the Ombudsman....
There are enough examples on this board of backdating though and their own site says they will. So calculated the interest and stick with it....0 -

this is third letter saying they will deal with by a certain date :rotfl: barclays site said they would backdate cheques received, this is where 1.00 initial opening balance was given with app and i was kept waiting to transfer other 2999 in, also worry about what had happened to my application with it taking so long0 -

Hell mine didn't even have a quid in it....
Opened 06/07 with a cheque. No idea of Acc/Sort. Then they withdraw the product....
Wait say's I, I've got another 3k burning a hole in my pocket, but I've no idea where to pay it to.
So, eventually end of May I think it was, they consent to me opening one for 07/08 and across my second payment, by BACS goes.... Backdated interest to Apr 6th...
I made it one person's problem in my local branch. So despite being polite, I was persistent, therefore it was in his interest to make the problem go away...
I didn't hassle him, I made that clear, it was the anonymous faceless, nameless men from the Department, who were our mutual enemy...
My only worry to be honest would be an Inland Revenue, time limit.... 'cos where you gonna go with that one!
You need an answer on that one either from Barc or to take back to Barc..... I'm sure they don't want to incur the ire of the Inland Rev/FSA either... May work as magic words...0
