It doesn't seem so, but at £1/month, I think I can afford to move £12 into another account and move it back again in 12 months

The DDs will remain in place for 12 months even if they're not being used. I think it would be wise to avoid cancelling them or moving them to another bank.

Just had a call from Tesco wanting to know why I had so many linked accounts (3 Lloyds and 1 other) and if i had set them up myself. I expressed surprise that they hadn't figured out the Lloyds Vantage connection. She wanted to know if I intended to use the Tesco account for saving. I said there would be money going in on a regular basis.

Yes a pound a month from each vantage to 2 Tesco Internet Savers

No. You have up until end of October to open up the Vantage accounts. But you actually have til end of November for your DDs to become 'active' (source: Lloyds TSB rep after consulting with manager).

There is nothing in the terms and conditions that state that these DD mandates have to be active at all, let alone an end of November date.

My very helpful young lady 'senior banking advisor' who opened my 3 accounts and who set up my standing orders for me from one to the next to the next and into the online saver account and who even spread out my 18K into the 3 accounts before the cheque had cleared! -she was very helpful- Told me (when I jokily said that I was going to "invent some DDs up" ) that the DD only had to be showing on the account and did not have any money coming out of them, was very supportive of my creative ideas for getting some DDs.


And today I got my 6th and final DD showing :j
