Where (apart from MSE threads) does it say anything about "active" / "inactive" DDs? And that "inactive" ones cannot be claimed against?
Branch staff. A DD becomes inactive after its been unused for more than 12 months. After it has become inactive, it can not be transferred to another bank nor used by the originator for debit payments.

When you can see them, you will also notice that there is absolutely nothing that says whether the DD is active or inactive.
You can request a list in branch, and then it does indeed say "Active" or "Inactive".

I know its doesn't say it in the T&Cs, but setting up a yearly DD isn't much and guarantees that the DD is "Active". Arguing with the bank after you didn't get the 4% offer due to a DD which hasn't been claimed for over a year will be daft when DDs are so easy to setup.

    Is that 100% correct?
  • I've done a scan of the posts but can't find an answer so sorry if this has been covered many times.

I have two Vantage accounts all set up for the 4% on £6k and would like to open another. Do I have to go into branch to do this? The guy at Lloyds told me I could do it online but I don't think I can.

    Thanks!

Phone up it's quicker. They tell you the sort code and account number at the end of the call.

On-line you have to wait for a few days for the details.

  • Many thanks for that and I glad I did it because it seems, despite going into branch and receiving confirmation that my original two Classic Vantage accounts had been upgraded to the 4%, it wasn't done. The lady I spoke to confirmed that it had been noted as being done and is getting the interest back dated to beginning of September when I upgraded them. I should have checked! Just a warning to others.

I now need to get two more DDs set up before the end of October. Not sure if this is actually possible in a week?

Tesco Banking is quite quick-though it varies with some ;)

Make sure you have a mobile number in your application as they send a txt with your Internet log in details.
If you have a Clubcard enter the details as well.
  • Blindman, thank you so much. I think I'm being very thick but for what reason would I set up a dd with Tesco banking? I do actually have a savings account with them with nothing in it.

Because you need to setup two DD's quickly.
  • I open a Tesco savings account then?

You said in post 928 that you already have one. If that's the case, just add DDs to pull in money from your Lloyds accounts
