Thanks to all who posted advice - I've now converted my usual current account to Vantage and set up a new Classic Vantage account. The two direct debits have also been sorted - Tesco Online Saver (£1.00 per month) and National Lottery (min £8.00/max £10.00 per month). As we tend to play the NL anyway this is a good solution as I didn't want to move around the DDs from my usual account.

How long did it take to set up the DDs? Says allow for up to 3 weeks on the site. Curious as to how efficient Tesco bank is.

I'm confused, why are some people saying u don't need to setup direct debits, when others have?

If you don't have a Lloyds Current Account and you open a new one, do you have to 'switch' from another bank?

Lloyds website has this but I don't understand it:
"Before 31 October 2012 open an account with Vantage or add this offer to your existing qualifying account and switch or have two direct debits on your account."

Are the 2 DD's needed to get the 4% instead of 3% ?

I don't want to switch from another account. Should I just open a Classic account, then apply 'Vantage' to it, then change 2 DD's to it ?

    Thanks

Tesco set up was online and easy - start date is 18 October.
NL was just as easy - I chose to start on 26 October when the DD is authorised. That is 3 weeks, should squeeze in before the end of the month to meet Vantage regs.

Good stuff. Wonder if NL would allow a DD to be set up from someone overseas who still maintains a British isles based bank acc.

If you have a UK postal address I suppose it'd be OK - worth trying?

Only restriction shown on first page.. can't remember any others!

We are unable to accept PO Box, Care of, British Forces & Prison addresses
  • When I phoned, I was told I could "only" upgrade three of my Vantage accounts.

That is correct - you shouldn't try and do more than that in one go.

I did my 3 last week and then the other two this week.

For future reference, when you got the bog standard Vantage accounts did you do it bit by bit giving them a different reason for opening each one?
  • No, I opened my accounts before there was a strictly enforced limit of 3 Vantage accounts. In the good old days you could just apply online for the extra accounts

So now you have to do so by phone or in branch?(maximum three or less?)
