I can't see that as being a problem, the direct debit will just be taken as normal, and will stop next month if you have deleted them, why would anyone question it...

BTW I reinstated my Tesco DD after I deleted them a couple of weeks ago, although it only let me set up one Tesco one to each account, so set up some from Paypal, the Tesco DD disappeared for a day but had two back within a day, anyway got my 4% paid yesterday so all was well.

I haven't yet cancelled any of the DD but will do this week sometime.

Thanks, I was only bothered if some charges were incurred somewhere. Silly I know. I thought I had everything planned when the 4% ended regarding finding a new home for the extra £1ks and cancelling DDs but didn't quite get it all right!

Why cancel Tesco DDs? After all, they aren't an interference as you are in charge of them yourself.

I'm keeping my Tesco DDs set up, in the hope that Lloyds will come back with another offer to compete with YB, CB, Nationwide...and anyone else who comes to the party!...who all pay more than Lloyds now do.

Yes, good point, I was taking a £1 a month before but cancelled that part, suppose I could leave them there doing nothing....

Another benefit is if Barclays, for example, come along with a switching offer paying 5% on £5K but require a couple of DDs.

I'd switch one of my Lloyds Vantage accounts (after first dumping the cash in a 1.xx% account) and then open up another to replace it. Should take no longer than a week to do.

It seems the future of saving is in current accounts, so you've got to try and second guess their next move! ;)

Yes I think you are right, current accounts seem to be the way to go, just a pain setting them up initially..

How are you operating the Yorkshire & Clydesdale accounts with regard to the monthly 1k, I assume you can set up a Standing Order to pay in from another account and also a Standing Order to pay it back on same day?
    And no DD required?

I don't use SOs. Even though I have to fund 16 (of my 18) current accounts each month I still prefer manual transfers!

No DDs required (T&Cs on their website).

I only have YB. Don't think I've seen a report of anyone holding both YB & CB yet. When I do I'll re-consider my position. ;)
  • I had the Tesco DDs set to stop on 24 Oct, knowing that need be the last payments from the Lloyds accounts. The accounts are still linked, but the DDs disappeared from the list on Lloyds. Easily re-established if needed via Tesco.

Made £300 out of them a few years ago.

2 of us opened current accounts for £100 each (only requirement was £1K per month for 3 months IIRC). Only one was paid so I queried why I hadn't had mine. Result was £100 manual payment plus a delayed automated £100 payment.

I brought it to the branches attention when closing the accounts 4 months later, as I'd left £100 in there. Branch didn't want to know and gave me 5 twenties saying "keep it"! :D
