did they ask you for further documents? Or was it straightforward?

No, I wasn't asked for further documents - wasn't contacted at all after the initial application.

    I gave my broker:
    P60
    3 months payslips
    passport
    proof of address (several)
    proof of deposit
    recent bank statement

although I'm not sure how many of these Nationwide required in the end (sorry)
  • Thanks Disco Cat! Now onto the solicitors part.. Dreading this!
  • I have been regularly reading the post here so thought that now I had received my mortgage offer I would give you an idea of how long it took for us. We had initially told the broker we wanted to avoid Nationwide (after reading about other people's experiences) due to a fast approaching exchange however after initially agreeing with us he then spoke to Nationwide and assured us there would be no problems.
I applied for a Nationwide Mortgage through a broker on 23rd Aug, Valuation carried out on 28th Aug, Nationwide informed us the valuation was satisfactory on 5th September and Text offering mortgage received on 12th Sept. So 14 working days in total due to bank hol. Nationwide also requested a more recent pay slip as I had given my broker the wrong one. Much quicker than expected!!!
  • Our broker received an update today telling him that they are "just going through the file one last time to check all is ok and we will make our decision early next week". We were so hoping to have the news today as each day is feeling like forever at the moment, but at least the end is now in site.
I am of course assuming all is ok and that they will give us a positive answer. Does anyone think that they would keep us hanging on so long, keep asking for more information and then turn us down?

When I kept calling and asking, thats the reply I got, that they were checking the case and checking our documents. We got a text Thursday night saying they can offer us the mortgage, and I was told earlier that day it'd be another 6 days until we heard! So there was obviously some communication errors between people on the phone and the underwriters. I wouldn't worry, if you've provided all of the documents requested and have been truthful about debts/how much you earn, then the application will go smoothly.
  • It does seem like its going on forever but once you get the offer it goes fast. We got our offer in writing on Thursday just gone and we complete a week on Friday
  • We had to change our solicitors details as I didnt like the reviews I was reading about the ones Nationwide assigned us to. I decided to call them to test them out, and they were rude on the phone! So I have gone with someone local. Would you say 2 weeks from offer in writing to completing? I don't know whether to pay for another months rent or not!
  • Our solicitor told us that we signed contracts and exchanged yesterday and we complete on 28th sept. she said 2 weeks from signin to completion was feasible.
