Well just as I was clear on what I could do, the solicitor has put a whole new light on things (for the worse!)

She advised that as I was the one who didn’t consummate the marriage, my wife would have to annul me! She also said that the pressure to get me married from my parents is not enough to be used as grounds for annulment on the basis of "forced marriage".

If I wanted a divorce, it would have to be after 1 year (2008) and even then, my wife would have to agree to it. If not, then I'd have to wait another year before I could file for a divorce and that would be all the way in 2009!!

So to sum it up, (sorry to sound harsh) I'm stuck with her til 2009 unless she agrees to ANNUL ME for non-consummation. The only way this is going to be even a remote possibility is if my parents can be convinced - but so far, they are not "on my side". (i.e. in order for my family and her family to discuss the whole situation and reach the best overall outcome for both parties - annulment.)

PS. Either way the solicitor said, you've got to tell the girl...

well after dinner 2nite, we are going to have a little family meeting... so that should help things. As for the 2nd opinion bit I will be chatting to my friends later 2nite and see if they have anything sensible to say.

I know its a tricky thing, but as far as i can tell, the only way is to get my family to at least understand and be "on side" (even if my mum n dad don't approve of it) It would all help a great deal with the negotiations.

When she phones, i just ask: "hows things? what u been upto? everyone else ok?" (small talk really) Even on her birthday i said happy birthday, what do you have planned, enjoy the party etc... and then just hurry it along and end the phone call. I think i only spoke to her for 4mins on her birthday! Terrible i know...

She even asks me "how come you don't call?" I just say i've been busy - Revising (trying to). Still not done the paperwork for your visas - been really busy revising! etc...

It was her mums birthday yesterday (my mother in law) and i didnt even phone... i just don't feel its the right thing for me to do. It doesnt feel right. I think they are definately feeling my lack of interest a bit, now...
