Prison and disqualification are theoretically possible, but not likely to happen if it was a relatively minor prang. Those options (particularly prison) tend to be reserved for people who cause serious injury or worse, especially if there's a suspicion that they fled the scene to avoid a breath test. For a minor accident, points and a fine are much more likely. See the magistrates' sentencing guidelines page 127. Not sure where the 18 months disqualification comes from - even for the most serious category the guidelines say 6-12 months.
I was just stating the maximum penalties; you're right about the starting points and bands.
I typed before thinking with the 18 months disqualification - it's a likely starting point for fail to provide breath etc test, not fail to stop /report Well spotted! Well spotted! 0 0

The neighbour has no requirement to do anything.
As the rest below yours states best report it as a non stop. Tho this should have been done at the time.
Yes, you made the 1st correct advice in post #8 :T:T
The last bit above tho' is incorrect in detail.
There no one around to report the accident to, maybe it should have been reported within the 24hr period after?, unsure.
And I'm going to make an assumption here, that the driver actually reversed into the car and then drove off.
IE You have to stop when going backward in order to go forwards.
Pedantic?, yes of course it is but it would be argued through. ;) I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button. ;) I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0

The car was back in my street again few nights ago so my son in law followed it back to the drivers house, could not believe he only lives a few streets away. He took photos of the car and it had my colour paint on his bumper and wing.
I phoned the police and they clearly said they hit and failed to stop, and give them copies of my damage and the other cars damage. they are 100% confident its him. Police said would you like his insurance details for the claim ? I said yes I would. He said let me check your details first to see if the my car had valid tax, mot and insurance which it did. He then radioed the other drivers plate....then repeated the plate....then repeated the plate and make model... then said I am going to now go to his house to see what his story is and left, He said he would be back.
He never came back nor did I get the other drivers details, I have rang the police station but they cant comment saying its still under investigation.0

The police often won't give you the other drivers details as they site data protection, they sometimes say they will only give it to your Insurers.
As mentioned before you can get the name, policy number and contact number for his Insurers for £4 from this site which is uses the same database the Insurers use for Insurance. https://www.askmid.com0

            Thanks for that.
The officer said I will get the details for you as soon as I have words with the other driver. My partner has just text saying they don't know who the driver was that day as the owner was away on holiday and knows nothing about it, great eh!0

 That's correct.

The OP should sue the third party.0

You can allow the other driver/insurance company to sue you personally.
 Yes you do.
It is an offence not to provide your insurance details if a claim is made against you.
I provided the link to the legislation in post no. 9.
 Please try to keep up.:D
The law doesn't specify what a "claim" is. Even a letter stating that someone holds you responsible for an accident and asking for compensation could be sufficient to class as a "claim". However, I doubt the police would be remotely interested in prosecution. Anyway, you can usually get all the details off askmid.com for £4 and add the cost to the claim, so it doesn't really matter. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.
