Wireless Dropping Repeatedly

I've had this problem before and it ended up being the laptop on that router. The laptop worked fine on other routers and the router worked fine for other laptops, but that combination of the two just didn't want to stay connected.0

It seems to be this router and various devices. Another neighbour has been having problems too.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

It's likely you are both using the same, or adjacent, channels. If possible you should be at least 2 channels apart (e.g. if they are on Ch1 you should be on Ch 3 or above etc.)How do I add a signature?0 -
If you are with Sky then I have noticed their standard routers are terrible for Wifi coverage. I have it set up in an upstairs bedroom, and I dont even get signal when in the room across the hallway (it is an old house, brick walls etc. though). I ended up investing in a good wifi repeater that sits in the middle of my house, now I get great reception all over the place.0

I did a scan and the other networks in the area all seem to be on Ch 1 or 11. I tried Ch 5 and had no improvement. The network belonging to the new neighbours can only be detected upstairs in our house, which makes me suspect that they may have an AV sender or something.
Not sure if a better router might help or if I will have to resort to powerline plugs.
I also suspect that if 2 houses on our side are having problems, 2 on the other side may have the same issue.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

i think this maybe the laptop wireless not having enough network data thus disconnecting i got a laptop here, that it discovers my network but because its not receiving data drops its signal to the router in order to discover another open network because there not enough connection rate eventhough showing full bars the connection rate is more important. id rather it have one signal bar but connect at 300mb/s than have full bars and connect at 28kb/s.
also certain routers will drop bandwidth usage per item connected to the routers home wireless network. so if you connect iphone, then i pad then a laptop then another laptop the iphone gets the strongest of bandwidth, then the ipad get a reduce rate of bandwidth then laptop get another reduced rate and so on, if your at the bottom of the list, then you get almost no connection ratio.
e.g in the routers wireless home network diagram.
blackberry dg5152.))) connected @ 300mbs
ownerpc.)))connected @124mbs
applepad.))) connected @ 54mbs
laptoppc.)))connected @ 42mbs
DDSlaptop.)))connected @ 24mbs.
if you go available networks or your signal bar, then click your router when connected and the right click go status you will see the connection speed. anything under 124mbs is subject to drop off when other items on the network are using websites to look at video and phones etc are constantly talking through the network, s turn off wifi on your phones when in the house if you dont need to use the network.etc.
also are you using a program to connect to the internet succh as for e.g tplink wireless utility? if so go into its setting and check allow windows to configure this network, it seems more reliable this way.
if all items are checked to automatically connect to this network resetting the router will have you see the same things as all the items are rediscovering the network and the router puts them back in place in order of connection.
try turning all wifi appliances suh as laptops and phones off then connect just your laptop if it still drops then i think your wifi card is on its last legs.
and also make sure that you have the correct wireless key put in, you may have it in lower case when there are capitals, there must be capital where there are them and lower case where they are in the key order it may connect but say LIMITED ACCESS. you will need to delete your network in the advanced options wich will mean going into network and sharing-manage networks-delete network-, shut down restart then discover the "new" network again and then enter the key as it is on the bottom of the router..0 -
I can't find a list of devices that are connected. Only a general connection status which does say speed is 54Mbps. I guess this is a problem.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

Reading this fairly quickly i can't find any mention of what ISP you are with and what router you are using.
I assume by mention of microfilters (eww) it's not virgin but Sky or BT etc.
Those would be my first questions.0 -
I had loads of wifi problems. In may case it was an electronic device - not sure if was someone house, car alarm or old microwave, but the wifi band was virtually blotted out.
Though I had a duff router as it worked, but as time went on, I lost the singnal. thinking theat the wifi section was overheating and cutting out, when in reality a person left the building, parked up, or made food!
The che for me was to use 2x10 meter cables, the progressed to a powerplug(netplug network mains plug thingy) and never looked back0 -
Sounds like you do have Sky plugged in? If so, have you tried unplugging it. We have know Sky boxes to cause serious problems with internet, just thinking it could be your internet dropping out rather than the wireless?
What you need to do to confirm this is run a speed test, unplug the ski box, and then run another speed test. If the second is considerable faster than the first then the box is causing a problem.
We use http://www.speedtest.net/ for the speed test. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
