on the subject of legging why do people wear tops tucked into them or when they over a size 12 (at a push)

Leggings get a bad press because of things like this. Leggings can look smart if worn in place of tights. As a larger woman, I often use leggings in this way. They are never worn as trousers, but under dresses (yes, work dresses when smart was required!). I don't fancy people being able to see some details of my large legs, I'd rather have them covered with a thicker fabric. And I don't always want to wear trousers. Though this obviously only works in cooler weather conditions.

Although like a previous poster I do totally break that rule when pregnant, especially when at that awkward stage where you aren't quite big enough for maternity trousers but are too big for your normal gear. Though again, I never paired them with a figure hugging top.

I've only ever had to speak to two staff members about their clothes - one wore black shorts over opaque black tights, and one of the lawyers commented that she looked like a high-class pole dancer, and the other was someone wearing uggs. Everyone said they looked a mess, even though the clothes were really nice.

Check your dress-code policy and remember it. If you are required to wear smart footwear, then Uggs are not it. Not even close.

Flip flops aren't work wear either. If it's hot then when sandals but flip flops are beach wear and never should be worn in the office.

I wear my daughter's old Uggs that got chomped by the moths as slippers.

Never knew about the foot rot!

I quite like them but they aren't smart - they are dress down gear I think.

I used to wear Uggs (tucked in under my smart black trousers) to work in an office as an intern but it was in the Arts AND it was the middle of winter and I had to get a cold bus for over an hour each day because they didn't pay me so I couldn't afford a car. I wouldn't have been allowed to tuck my trousers into them and I DEFINITELY wouldn't have been allowed to wear leggings in the office. We only had a smart casual workwear rule too!

We were expected to wear smart trousers/skirt and a niceish top but could wear flip flops in the summer and pumps in the winter. We only had to dress up on the rare occasion we had a big meeting or had to meet the public (when we were expected to wear a suit and a corporate coloured scarf/tie which made you look like an air hostess!).

I still don't have to dress suit smart at my new job but smart black trousers and a nice top (no cleavage, sparkles, etc) and a cardigan. Definitely no Uggs allowed at my new job because we have to be 'dressed as if a customer or the council could drop in any second' even though in reality they won't normally!

Personally I am a big fan of suit dresses and always have been. Suit dress, cardi, tights and kitten heels and you look super smart with minimal effort. I absolutely love them - bought 2 new ones this week! Get rid of the Uggs if you want people to think you're professional - they're not appropriate for staff who work in a smart work wear office!

Yes that is how leggings should be worn. Some leggings especially the cheaper ones look horrid and so thin you can see everything underneath.

OH's just walked into my office (she wasn't up when i left ) wearing a grey dress, heels and jacket.

We've had the other partner fly in from Spain this morning wearing a black suit and top

I'm dressed in a suit and shirt (but no tie )

    This tells me the following:
-We wear 'proper' businesswear to work
-If anyone isn't, other partner will send them home
-Not a word of English is going to be spoken in this office today.

I think you get the idea from that.

Especially white ones. I saw a woman yesterday who really shouldn't have been wearing a short top and leggings combo, but the worst thing was the leggings were white and you could see everything. The washing instructions on the label, the type of knickers she had on, the gusset line of the knickers...

That you think only non-English speaking people wear business attire?

What's that got to do with anything in any way, shape or form?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I'm liable to find myself on all fours under a desk

    Doing what ? :eek::eek::rotfl:

Probably something similar to me - this week I'm moving computers & am spending a lot of time under desks or on desks tracing cabling and connecting wires! I spend half my life up a stepladder or climbing under/over desks & it wouldn't be practical for a female to wear high heels & a straight skirt! We don't need to wear jeans or ugg boots and can still look fairly smart in plain black trousers & leather shoes/boots & a decent top/shirt but high heels & little skirts just aren't practical for some jobs!
