We were stuck behind some what looked like arrogant road race cyclists who remained 3 a breast for miles not letting motorists pass.

I get irritated in general by most cyclists who clearly have no regard for road laws in general, i.e. jumping red lights etc...

The cyclists I find that are very good are the ones who are also drivers.

That probably works the other way around as well.
The drivers that show the most consideration to cyclists probably ride a bike themselves.

Probably very true but I actually don't cycle at all (i'm actually scared to cycle on roads) but I'm always very courteous to cyclists, I leave plenty of space when overtaking and I don't overtake on blind bends or if it's too tight (to the dismay of many people tailgating me when this happens).

End of the day I appreciate that most cyclists that do it for transport are doing a great good for the environment as well as their own health but a few others ruin their reputation by breaking the same road laws that drivers have to abide by.

    would say so.
As a cyclist I probably have a greater understanding of what the cyclist faces and what choices they may make.
Eg yesterday I was behind a family on bikes(mum, dad and 4 little uns)
I was heading to a light controlle junction.
only left or right and the the junction (light at red)
so I held back assuming the cyclists were likely going right at the road end.
As it was they were and we reached the lights as they turned green.
Holding back allowed them to filter out and turn right without pressure.
After turning It was a 2 lane road making passing safe and easy for all parties

In the meantime deaths of cyclists and pedestrians are increasing.

  • Aardvaak - you should leave the same amount of space you leave a car when overtaking cyclists, I.e. leave the lane you are in completely.

It therefore doesn't matter if there are cyclists riding abreast.
