@Tokki: have you tried some insoles in the shoes? Sometimes they make the difference bearable. And I hear you on the comfortable shoe thing. Decent nursing shoes here are hugely expensive (if you want any style) and as I wear dresses and rarely scrubs I refuse to wear sneakers/tennis shoes. Last time we were in Germany, I brought back six pairs of white leather shoes for under 200Euros. They would have cost me over 650CDN. Customs looked at me like I was a total freak.
House deposits are a huge issue here. Too many issues with zero percent down on houses. When we bought our first house 22 years ago, Mr. WonderCollie was just back from UN peacekeeping tours and had banked seven out of nine months pay. I provided the furnishing/drapes money. Having said that we still came up with 25K. Over here, if you can't put up 25% of the value of the house, you wind up having to buy mortgage insurance for the bank incase you default. So luckily we managed to avoid it. What families that can afford it do, is have the parents buy the house as a revenue property and "rent" it to the kids/newlyweds. Then the parents can write of the mortgage interest as an investment expense. Having said that, if we tried to do it for our kids we'd have to come up with 75K and that is not going to happen.0 -
Biggood news! :j :j :j
WELL DONE:beer:
Aw thanks Willowbee!I admit it does look nice logging into my online banking and seeing black instead of red. I'm not kidding myself though, a long hard slog ahead with clearing the debt off my CC before the 0% runs out in 16 months, but I WILL do it!
And tokki&oliver - why is the seller telling you that you can't return the shoes? Ebay rules are that for change of mind (or non-fit in your case) you can return them but the postage should be your own cost. Any seller who tells you they have a no returns policy is going against Ebay rules. (I'm a long time private seller)
"Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -
I notice on you sig you are saving for a house deposit, I can't believe people are expected to save tens of thousands of pounds for a deposit, it seems nigh on impossible. DH and I are in our second house since moving in together and we bought this one 10 years ago with a deposit of £2500. How things have changed in such a short time. Truly hope you manage to achieve it.
haha *trying* I'm in my early 20s and have worked out a random amount of 15% of a £150,000 house...just to have a target to work to at least!
It is quite scary how things seem to be these days, but luckily I still live at home with hardly any bills, so I'm making the most of not having to pay huge amounts of rent...this website has helped me a lot of the last few years to get me into the MSE way!

Been lurking around ebay for that retail therapy. I am totally amazed that people are trying to sell half used products. I really wouldn't want to touch an eyeshadow pallette that had some pans showing through the colours!
I mean if anyone is selling a mixed batch of unopened items and ships to NA pm your shop or batch site and I'll have a look.0 -
Hello everyone! I've been away a lot this month so haven't too many UUs and I had a few skincare purchases with birthday money yesterday.
UUs:
1) TBS Papaya body butter, WBA but only at < £5. 3 more body butters left, which should last until Christmas when I'll stock up in the sales again!
2) S&G Clean on Me :T Finally! WNBA, not a fan of the S&G scent, it's too sweet for me.
3) Eucerin Aquaporin moisturiser: WNA if my skin gets really dry in winter. I've been using better cleansers so I don't need such heavy moisturisers right now.
4) Carmex original tube. WBA, this is my HG and I have another one and a strawberry flavour on the go. These last me ages but are not a LHJ as I enjoy using them and they work.
INs:
1) Origins Drink Up Intensive mask. I used this last night and it's lovely! My skin was so soft this morning and it smells fantastic.
2) REN sensitive regime kit: I've wanted to try REN for ages but it's expensive. This kit contains minis of 4 items (cleanser, moisturiser, serum, mask) so seemed a great deal for £13.0 -

I bought the REN sensitive kit to try, but have not used it yet, I am really pleased with the other sample items I have tried - two masks and the eye gel.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0
