    Bet it was reported long before that as it usually takes a lot longer than a few hours to get a listing pulled...

    @blackcateddie - it wasn't me who noticed it, and I can't be bothered ;)

    @Avoriaz - see above.

    @tine - I'm sure you're right - probably before Avoriaz noticed it too!

    What strikes me as amazing is that 95% of fee avoidance/encouragement to trade off ebay could be detected by some not very smart listing key-word analysis, which ebay could implement in a trice if they could be bothered. They really don't try hard enough to address these issues IMHO.
  • Erm.. These are only about £200 odd new.. They're the cheap remakes of the original Strats. They're a beginner's/student's guitar.

    Only reason I know this is that my hubby is into his guitars (I seem to spend £££ on this and that). You often see things go for more than what you can buy them new. Also when new they're like erm new. I'll happily pay another £100-£200 to go to a shop. He has his eye on some £1200 PRS one at the moment. Again, they go for more on eBay than what you can buy them new.

    You see this quite alot. They're just cheap mass produced copies of the originals.

    You are partly right…but…

    This is a genuine Fender Strat, not a Fender Squier or a non Fender copy. Of course that does not mean it is a good guitar or a bad guitar. Only by playing it could you tell. Most people speak quite highly of the Fender Anniversary Specials but, like any guitar, they vary enormously even within supposedly identical model ranges.

    There are literally hundreds of companies making Strat copies. Some are very good, some are average and some are atrocious.

    However the same can be said of genuine Fenders. When CBS bought Fender (sometime in the 1980s) production values dropped alarmingly. Fender have recovered but there are plenty of genuine Fender Strats (and Telecasters, Precision Basses etc) that can’t hold a candle to some of the copies.

    Fender now make guitars in America (MIA = Made in America) Mexico (MIM = Made in Mexico) and their second brand Squier which are made in Korea, China and elsewhere in the far east.

    But there are plenty of companies making inexpensive guitars that are as good as anything Fender can make.

    I’m very jealous of your hubby. Mrs A would not allow me to spend £1,200 on a Paul Reed Smith. :D

    most people do not speak so highly of mexican Fenders though, aslight exaggeration that they are only £200 odds when new, i believe the standard mexicans are listed around £350 and the reissue mexicans closer to £450 but still these are prices you don't see them going for very often, if anyone os genunely interested in adding a fender strat to their collection then Japanese are the best bet, they sell around the same price as the mexicans and are so much better it's unbelievable, in fact the earliest models were better thna US built ones but the Dender co wucikly put a stop to that, the real best bet is to play cheap guitars in shops until you find one with good natural acoustics and a comfortable neckthen buy it and put better pickups in it. I done that myself and now my favourite guitar of all that i own is a £110 Vintage, albeit with a cpuple of hundred pounds worth of seymour duncan pickups added but still a darn site cheaper than i'd have paid to get a U.S strat that sounds half as good
