How horrible :( I agree with others, I think you need to get together and confront her, but work out what you're going to say and try and stick to it. No need for it to descend into a big row, just knowing you're onto her should be enough to make her feel ashamed and embarrassed even if she doesn't show it. Don't give her the opportunity to do this again.

If you were near me I'd say you should all put me down as your alternative delivery address. Our parcel postman is bl**dy GORGEOUS!!:p

Most of the time when you order anything online, it says delivery instructions and what do if you're not in, I always put in mine to leave behind the side gate, can't you put in it to never leave at so and so number but only at the numbers 4 5 and 6?

We've had a similar problem and now when I get anything delivered I specifically put 'Do not leave with number 5'.

I'd speak to the police as well. Being a skint single mother is no excuse for stealing from your neighbours!

True, I'm just not sure I'd want to risk it.

Probably better to tell the companies at the point of purchase, then if they do go the neighbour its entirely their fault as they were specifically asked no to.

The other thing also with the tactic of 'Don't leave parcels at 53' is that you hope the woman at 53 sees it!

And if everybody does it, she'll know she's been well and truly rumbled.

You don't have to put a notice on door/window which would advertise the fact that you are out ....when ordering an item when it comes to delivery instructions just put DO NOT DELIVER TO ANY OTHER HOUSE ON STREET IF NO-ONE IS AS HOME. LEAVE CARD SO WE CAN RE-ARRANGE DELIVERY!

I would also go with writing on the delivery instructions at the time of purchase 'do not leave with neighbours at number x'. That should do it surely?
  • I get parcels delivered to the corner shop whenever possible. (Collect + or something like that). Saves the problem.

We have a neighbour who, like all of us in this area, takes parcels in for others if they're out when the parcel arrives.

Several of us have had problems though, with missing items. One lady had ordered shoes and a jacket, which came in the same parcel and when she went to collect it from the neighbour, the parcel had been opened. The jacket was missing although the invoice said it had been included in the parcel.

The excuse was that "the baby" (a 4 year old) had opened it and she'd had to tape it up again.

Another lady had 2 identical items delivered, to check the best fit, and again one went missing while in the safekeeping of this other person. She maintained it was handed over as delivered.

And today she took in a parcel for me - again, some missing items.

I rang the company and they're adamant the parcel contained all ordered items.

Looks like she's helping herself - but what can we do without proof?

Oh as if! If I take a parcel in for someone (and I have a toddler), I put it well out of his reach.

She's been stealing, why won't you phone the Police? Who cares if she's a skint single Mother, by not saying anything to her, you're all allowing her to carry on stealing from your parcels.

Who is paying for the shortfall in goods anyway? You and your neighbours or the companies?

It looks bad on yourselves to allow the companies to take the hit when you know who is doing it.

Ever heard the expression "you don't !!!!!! on your own doorstep"? Well this person is, she doesn't care about you lot does she, so why care about her getting into trouble?

Do the right thing and dob her in.

  • 1) Call the police
    2) Speak to your local post office and make them and your postie aware not to leave parcels for you.
    3) Put a note up with a general "If out please leave at post office/depot" then there will be no arguments over you accusing your neighbour of theft.
    4) Make sure all companies you use are given delivery instructions not to leave the parcel at neighbours.

We're all going to advise the various companies not to deliver to that number, or specifically to the number they CAN deliver to.

The company I'm dealing with is investigating. The trouble is, although she was asked to sign for a delivery of a parcel, there's no way of knowing the contents of that parcel when it contained more than one item.

Up to now, none of us are out of pocket, but of course that's not the point. The companies concerned have replaced the item, or credited for it. So definitely no more parcels will be going to her house which will stop the stealing, and being the kind of person she is, it's not safe to confront her. She has gangs of lads and girls at her house all hours of the night and someone smashed her windows a while back - not that she was bothered as the Housing Association replaced it.

It's a sad day though when you can't allow a neighbour to take a parcel in for you.
