you could always use a jar on tomato based pasta sauce if you have any in.

I'm looking for a reliable pizza sauce recipe.

The pizza dough is in the BM at the moment and I have the following to hand:

    Tomato puree
    Tinned tomatoes
    Various herbs
    Garlic

Anyone got a foolproof recipe ?

    Thanks

My ds usually makes ours up, he uses tom puree, ketchup, mixed herbs and garlic, it's lovely!

If you use tinned toms just be careful not to make the sauce too liquidy, prob best just to make sure they are really well drained, else you'll end up with a soggy bottom, which is not a good thing lol!

  • if you mix an equal amount of tomato puree and chopped tomatoes to make a sloppy paste, then add herbs, oregano would be good, crushed garlic clove, slug of olive oil, and season with salt pepper and pinch of sugar!

  • We use passata usally the smart/basic/value one. If you want a plain sauce just use it straight from the jar/carton but, for somthing alittle more tasty i finally chop an oin and some crushed garlic once softened add the required amount of passata and some basil. Then just spread on the pizza base.

  • I use tomato puree as a base, then slap on the toppings, sprinkle with herbs and add cheese. If I have time, I'll make a tomato sauce from onion, garlic and tinned tomato. I then cook slowly until all the juice is evaporated. I find tinned tomatoes straight from the tin (even when the liquid is sieved off) makes the base soggy ;)

I'll add this to the existing thread to keep ideas together :D

I do the same as afterglow. I used to spend ages chopping and simmering but now I mix tinned chopped tomatoes, puree, salt, a little sugar, garlic, and some dried herbs. I don't worry if it's a little wet, as I can let the extra moisture drip out before I put it on the base. Works fine, and not soggy (I do spread some olive oil over the base first, and don't take the sauce all the way to the edge).

Last night was pizza night chez kunekune, and I made 3 (450g flour) -

tomato base, yellow peppers, mozzarella, drizzle of olive oil
tomato base, ham, pineapple, mozzarella, drizzle of olive oil
tomato base, mozzarella and then a mixture of finely chopped chillies, anchovies, capers that have steeped in olive oil for a bit tossed over the top

    All very yummy.

  • My 4 year old loves making homemade pizza and since the ready made sauce that you buy in the shops is so expensive, does anyone have a recipe to make my own sauce.

    Thanks
