I use a tin or two of tomatoes and simmer them for an hour or so to thicken them down. I season lightly with salt and pepper. Sometimes I add a little chilli powder.0

I thought we'd have pizza tonite, in order to use some out of date ham, only to find I have no tinned tomatoes (which is totally unheard of, must be all those storecupboard meals I've been making). I do have some tomato puree, so what do people suggest I do??
Your expert advice would be grately appreciated.

I also mix tom puree with mixed italian herbs and garlic. Add water so you get a more "runny" texture (do this a bit at a time). Never had any complaints so must taste as good to others as it does me;)0

my fave way is a mix of tom paste and ketchup and some italian herbs sprinkled over the top or sometimes passata. i'm not keen on tomatoes that much but this way i get the taste but none of the lumpy bitsNonny mouse and Proud!!

IF you have some of the above, by the time you get cheese and other toppings on you won't notice much of a difference. Not all pizzas have tomato any way, had !!!!aladiere in Nice and also another pizza there that had no tomatoes, lots of olives, anchovies, herbs mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
A spread of soft cheese is nice."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Many thanks for all your replies.
I did find a bit of salsa left in a jar in the fridge, so mix that with the tom puree, a bit of water, some dried onions and some oregano. Along with my out of date ham, some black olives and cheshire cheese, (bought as a money saver but big mistake), mixed with some cheddar this should turn out okay. Might be a bit too garlicy, as I was a bit heavy handed with the garlic salt in the dough and the whole house smells like a frenchman boudoir, (was going to say jockstrap, but that really puts me off eating the pizza altogether).
Once again, many thanks peeps.0 -
Ran a pizza shop for a while, always used tomato puree watered down on bases. One day I might be more organised...........
