    Hope it is in sight-I have fond memories of Howard's End:D:rotfl:

    Good.

    (yes that's right MSE that message is too short!)

    Things at my end are going too well. I think they are fitting grant funded cavity wall insulation before they move out. This isn't normal. Nobody is this nice!

    So long as it's the only thing too short.

    Probably Operation Balaclava caught them a bit on the hop. Enjoy it while you can.

    You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

    Your time is limited so don't waste it living someone else's life.

    Two of my favourite Steve Jobs quotes.
    At times of stress other people go to a floatation tank or a Buddist retreat, I retreat to my Steve Jobs quotes.

    So life is stressful;

      [*]waiting for a mortgage decision from the bank
      [*]living with two blokes and half the contents of a house under the bed
      [*]dealing with 'customers' who don't understand the connection between a gift horse and it's mouth (or Helen of Troy for that matter - although to be fair that bit isn't essential)
      [*]Ongoing financial restraint and the feeling that everytime I go in Bargain Booze* I am being watched by the bank
      [*]Potential job promotion opportunity five months after the last promotion

      * other off-licences are available

      So....most of the above are stressful on their own, apart from maybe trips to Bargain Booze, as I have a bit of a soft spot for the manager (probably due to his access to alcohol to be fair!!!). The house 'problem' is not bothering me too much because it is due to finish by 28th November.

      I feel the potential job promotion is about 6 months to a year too early for me. I know I feel this because my tried and tested check (Butti has filled in half a job application but really really can't get motivated to do the attributes/skills/experience 2000 words bit).

      At present;
      I work for someone I like and 'pretty much' respect
      who offloads a shedload of work on to me at any given opportunity with the words "Butti* will lead on this" (this is why I 'pretty much' respect him rather than 'respect' him!)
      I am learning a lot by the above method
      I am also learning from his failings
      I work in an office with two people I like, one of whom is Mr Perfect (so I learn a lot from him too!)
      My drive into work is about half an hour
      I am comfortable with some of my work and learning from the rest
      I am about to start a short course on construction to fill the identified gaps in my knowledge
      ...and I have enough going on in the rest of my life.

      Butti* - clearly this is not my real name!

      So yes I could go for the job and see if I am shortlisted and go to the interview and get feedback on where the gaps are or get the job offer. I'd then be working still in the same office, still sitting next to the same people and working for a boss I'm not sure I want to work for. I'd also still have a lot to learn and be learning on the job and making lots of mistakes.

      • So I am going to leave that application form.
      • Have a look at the specification for the job at the next level and take those points to my annual review next week. A list of what I am missing so we can work on getting me that experience.
      • Tell them in the bit about progress how quickly I want progress.

      I may need in future to go and work at the head office in order to get promotion but I think this will be okay. I just put the prep in and rely on Steve Jobs to join the dots ;) I think we're back at the first day of this diary :D That's possibly Kharmic too!

      (Don't worry I'm not about to do a "Goodbye" Mr Zed disappearing act!:rotfl:)

      What else is happening in my life. I think I am starting to identify some true friends, potentially true friends and some really SUPER people. Super in a kind of sarcastic super superficial way. The sort of way that makes them feel the need to sit in the same spot and the same clique every time they are at an event and make others feel excluded, APART from when a guy who is very biologically similar to them but was probably starved of a few minutes oxygen at birth sits in their spot. They then go and all sit in a different spot en masse and leave the hostess to come over to me at the bar and say "This is really awkward". To which I reply, "No it isn't, look A is sitting opposite him, you go and sit next to him and I'll come and sit with you". Guess where said hostess then goes and sits? (This is the woman who seems to want to send all social housing tenants to the Shetlands/Falklands/Outer Hebrides/ any British island miles from England)

      To give her her due she did soon come and move us to the end of the group and then other people were 'dragged' into a conversation with an intelligent logical bloke who you just had to give a tiny bit more time and listen a little bit more carefully to.

      I had a lovely message yesterday from the woman who was then sat opposite us. She was thanking me for making her feel so welcome. Her note was so kind and so well worded and she was so great on that night. I also got all these messages from people telling me it was "Great to see you". Yes, great to see me, from across the room and not engage in ANY conversation with me whatsover.

      Anyway enough moaning......my life is pretty good really.....and hopefully even better by December.

      Better go and practice my BSL. Meeting up with some signers and my ex-teacher tonight. :beer:
