Are you going to enjoy going out with him? Then go. If he makes a joke about your age, then tell him to shut it. No sense in doing this if he doesn't know why.

I'm spending tomorrow with some nice people, some nice beer in a lovely city. I've come to the conclusion that the guy is an !!!!!!.
............Basically I find him irritating.

Well that's fair enough - if you don't like him over all, don't bother with him.

If he does specific things which you want him to stop - then get him told.

He's still wittering on in the background about mixed signals and how warm my hugs are. See I can't say what I want to say as it WILL offend.....which is basically that I will hug almost anyone in a public place but I won't necessarily accept a lift and a date with that same person if I think they have issues with boundaries and I don't think they understand the meaning of the word No.

How about "I'm telling you. That's not a signal - there is no interpretation involved. The fact you have been unable to accept and/or understand this is just another illustration of your unsuitability."

Basically, he's trying it on so you'll feel sorry for him and allow him to take liberties. He knows the situation now - your work is done. The issue of whether or not he believes it is...as the time honoured saying goes...not your problem.

And hey! you never hugged me...
