I have hairy lower arms, lower half of toes, hands up until knuckles and lower half of fingers (black hairs on the first two, fine on the last, mixed on the middle) as well as all the usual places. I Nair it all off every few weeks. If they weren't so black and noticeable I would probably not bother or do it less often. I absolutely hate it all so off it comes.

And those are the places on show. The non-typical bits that don't get public viewing also have nasty hairs :(

However I do think i'm quite normal, just one of the unlucky, hairy heavy women.

Needless to say I feel like a great big hairy ape and it's so not feminine!

Oh no. I feel for women who have that type of problem.

Why only if youre abroad though?

I presume she means when she goes somewhere hot, where you are wearing a skirt or shorts every day. No need for that 99% of the time in sunny blighty!

OH claims he can't see them, i know he lies.

Maybe he can physically see them, but doesn't really "see" them? Us women can be very critical of our own bodies but I bet the majority of people don't notice things we feel are big flaws. My OH never realised I had stretchmarks on my knees until I pointed them out, and I've always thought them quite noticable myself.

I have a lot of hair on my arms and also hands ( thats the worst - I find it makes me self consious - its not very feminine !) and also on my face. My mum had the same so guess it genetic. Its very light coloured and soft so we are not talking a full on beard ! But does still bother me so I get rid of it. Just makes sure she doenst shave it like I used to ! Makes it worse. If it really bothers her then use some removal cream. I wasnt bothered until about 14 but I guess everyones different. It is notmal though just not something people tend to speak about !

I'm rather hairy, but just get rid of it.

DD was picked on at school for having hairy arms when she was 7 or 8. It got to the point where she refused to take her jumper off at school (they wore polo shirts) and wouldn't wear t-shirts even at home.

I'd always known she was hairy (but fair, so it's not THAT obvious) but didn't expect her to want to do anything about it before secondary school. But it got so bad, we defluffed her that summer (originally with nair but she's now moved on to a ladyshave because she didn't like the chemical smell) and she was so happy. Although it was noticed at school she was brave enough to say "you moaned when I had hair, you can't moan now I don't" and that seemed to work.

Obviously this was rather drastic, and I wouldn't recommend hair removal for really young girls - as long as she is happy there's no need to do anything about it.

This might sound a bit odd Lotus_Eater but can you engineer somehow for her to see a (probably european!) film or magazine where women do not shave their armpits, or to be in an environment where not everyone has shaved legs.

When I was a teenager I was disgusted and shamed by my own body hair. It wasn't until going to Germany that I realised that some very sexy (in attitude, figure and clothes) women don't shave at all. It was a revelation.

What I want to know, is there a chance they will get less hairy as she gets older? Or will they get more hairy?
She is a blonde and the hair doesn't show much, more a golden sheen, but she asked the question the other day, why are my arms so hairy.

I don't want to know anything about how her body image shouldn't matter to her, nor anything along those guidelines thankyou.
    Just a simple question.
Maybe you should tell her that Females are not meant to be hairless and there is nothing wrong with something as natural as body hair.

nice idea in principle, but realistically, i think she's going to listen to peer pressure.

I was the same when I was younger. Lots of fine blonde hairs on my arms. I don't actually remember anyone ever saying anything to me about it but I made me feel so self conscious which was enough.

I ended up shaving my arms which was hideous when the hairs started to grow back so switched to hair removal cream and now waxing. If she's feeling that self conscious about them I'd definitely let her do something about it. It's no big deal to get rid of the hair.

Sorry just seen in OP you're not after that sort of advice!

One thing as poster above has said if she shaves her arm hair it will invariably come back thicker and more stubbly. I would try and encourage her to live with it.
