The OP wants a decent holiday not a haven holiday camp full of council tennants and push chairs.

Had to laugh at this we visit Haven and we aren't council house tenants but we do have a pushchair :rotfl:

I went to Butlins last week and gosh was my eyes opened up or what. First time been there for donkeys years. The place was over run with women and children. Very few men and very few families. Where on earth were all the fathers I do not know. We felt quite strange being a family. However wouldnt return in a long time. Holiday abroad is the only option for me in future :T

Forgot to add it was a SUN holiday so expect they were all taking up the option of a cheap break before the school holidays. It was packed. Surely all those parents never took their children out of school. Or had some schools already broken up on 13th July ???

Make £200 by end of January... £20.42/£200
Grocery Challenge £200 pm Jan £0/£200
January no spend days - 1/31

This is a bit snobby isn't it? Anyway, the word is 'tenants', as any council tenant would know.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

As I'm getting 8% interest on the sum I'm not too worried if the payment is a bit late, I can't get that in a bank! The FOS tell me the vast majority of settlements are on time as companies are legally bound to pay within the deadline.after 21st of August a court has the power to force payment, further interest and penalities.

My post was simply related to the fact that firms don't always pay out as soon as anticipated. So if you have got a short term 4 week loan as you originally mentioned you could potentially have come unstuck. As you have managed to secure an increased overdraft then hopefully it won't be such a major issue if the firm takes a few more months to pay up.

No benefits/nothing to pay back. Yes spot on with your deduction of the situation macca83. As it turns out my husband received a refund from HMRC today so going away with this, it's in the bank so no promises of dates as it's there already (5 days after submitting the refund). We are getting a cheap break, self catering and taking the car so not going crazythanks to those for the good tips on exercising caution (a bird in the hand etc).

The FOS does have quite a unique way of settling disagreements which is too lengthy to fully explain, but it's really not hear say but a formalised, legal process.

I've decided to wait until 21st of August and not spend any money until I have it. If its late I will instruct my solicitor and then sit counting how much money I will get with 8% simple interest on my nest egg - it may be lucrative though maybe a bit stressful! I just want the wages I should have got over the years on time and without the hassle ideally. But I will keep you posted as to when it comes, thanks for your yourful tips and suggestions.

A little tip from me, don't take out PHI or income protection, even my surgeon says its not worth the paper it's written on.

Actually I've done butlins and haven as well as posh holidays (before kids). If you have young children they love these activity packed parks.

Just because you had a bad experience doesn't make such policies a bad idea.

Surely if you didn't have it, you wouldn't be getting £100k+.

Despite the problems, seems a cracking result. Where would you have got money from if you never signed up for it?

I got it free as a perk but many people pay privately and the pay out rate can be low, if u google this area the court cases, class actions and tragic cases of people wrongly being benefits it appalling. I think the mistake is when people depend on it and consider they have cover when the fact is you do need a back up plan. People (many public sector) are better when they are retired esrly with a pension ie money they can depend on. I won't deny I got a good result eventually but it's been hell getting it.
