Kids and Small Hotels and Breakfast Time Nightmares

Some families might be like that, but not all of them surely? My kids might whine at times, but not when they are about to get breakfast. They have been brought up to respect other people and would not dare to behave in such a manner in public - they know that I would punish them if they did!0 -
I actually thought you were complaining about the childless all going to breakfast early and hearing them moving about woke you up.0

This really doesn't sound like very much at all. Even if they were stood in the doorway for a minute, it's not that much of an inconvenience if you're already seated and eating.
I think that you've let it get to you and so now, any contact with any family is now going to annoy you as you've become overly sensitised. And this is in turn ruining your stay.
They probably are not "running riot" in their rooms it's just again that you're not used to having people around you or above you.
Children are not quiet by nature. That doesn't make them whiny or naughty or riotous. It just means that they are not as quiet as you. Perhaps you do things that would irritate others too. It's not really a problem, except you're allowing it to upset your hotel stay.
Rather than looking at others and trying to find fault in the smallest of things, you either need to learn how to zone them out or to change your mindset and look for positives in wha they are doing. Most kids are well behaved most of the time. Perhaps think about how old these people that you're criticising are (1? 2? 3 years old?) and then think about what they are doing well as opposed to what they are doing to irritate you."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

But you'd probably also want stuff for the kids to do. There's nothing here. The nearest chippy (which is a gastro-eating-experience and highly expensive) is over a mile walk as there are no buses after about 6.30. There's no lounge or room.... or anywhere to go. So you'd be trapped with your kids in one room, with one freeview box. And getting to the beach is a half mile trek up/down a hill. There's not even a corner shop for a mile. There are better placed facilities.I've found that hotels are quite often cheaper than self-catering. It's also nice as a Mum to be looked after once in a while and not have to make the breakfast, or the beds.
I just checked the sums 2 adults + 2 kids under 12. Looks like £690/week. Good holiday home, sleeping 6-8, with activities and kids clubs and a pool and with a little shop and food on site and near the beach and with harbour views is £497 for the same week.0 -
The total room size is only about 12'x12', so it is annoying to have them all standing/looming and pushing/shoving and being told off right by your table. This really doesn't sound like very much at all. Caravans for one were too expensive for me as you're paying for "sleeps 6/8". I've just got the tiny single room here.Lotus-eater wrote: »So the thread should be titled.

And, yeah, something more unpleasant.... went to view a place last week that looked like an illegal squat.0 -

No one gives kids fizzy drinks at breakfast time
I have lots of children and find your comments irritating. You were a child once you know!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

I wish that was true but there are some parents who will do anything for a quiet life or think there on holiday why not, i'm not one of them, i have nothing against fizzy drinks from time to time but not at breakfast.
I have to say we've stayed in hotels many times with the kids and i never even relised this was an issue, we never let them run riot and generally come breakfast time there eating so are well behaved and quiet anyway.DEC GC £463.67/£450
