When I was a child I mentally converted every word into numbers as I was listening to people/things. A=1, B=2, C=3..... so cat was 3+1+20=24. Everything was converted into a number mentally.
I went to dad's friend's house once and was told to "be quiet", so I sat there and counted the roses on their wallpaper. The first thing I said once we'd got out of their house was "There were .... roses on the wallpaper in that room". I counted EVERYTHING. I still do count a lot of things.... all the time. If I am walking anywhere I'm not taking in the views, I'm counting my footsteps.
I can tell you how many paces it is from here to the steps at the end of the road, how many steps there are, how many paces it is to the beach and how many paces from the beach to the part of it where I've been going.0 -
I wouldn't. We had caravans in farmers fields, with gas mantles and chemical toilets. Breakfast on holiday would be a box of Sugar Puffs in the caravan. I remember one year the Sugar Puffs had little pink sugary balls in the bag too.... size of small marbles. Strawberry flavoured.... most exciting thing EVER!Imagine time travelling and meeting your younger self in a hotel breakfast room :D0 -

That just tells me you're extremely intelligent

I used to love caravan/camping holidays. I used to go 5-6 times a year with my nan and grandad who were in the caravan club.
The twins ask how much things cost too.
And they can recognise the model of every girls Clarks shoe eg:
'your shoes are infant daisy bop'Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

So you know how horrible it is to be brought up that way, which surprises me at your attitude.PasturesNew wrote: »I was brought up to stay quiet .... probably because of the embarrassment I caused. My parents used to say they had to take me everywhere twice, the second time to apologise
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

You have a very sharp, very dry sense of humour which makes me chuckle. You will probably say the humour is not intentional all of the time but your observations tend to be spot-on.
As I said before, I used to post on the housing board many years ago and remember your posts. I know you get a lot of respect on there.0 -
It's how most kids were brought up in the 60s. Children should be seen, but not heard. It wasn't horrible; it was the way it was.Lotus-eater wrote: »So you know how horrible it is to be brought up that way, which surprises me at your attitude.0 -

I am not sure if it's respect.... or fear of getting a kicking from the others if I'm picked on

Oh, so you really do think children should be quiet then?PasturesNew wrote: »It's how most kids were brought up in the 60s. Children should be seen, but not heard. It wasn't horrible; it was the way it was.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
People should be quiet. If I wanted a party I'd be in Ibiza.Lotus-eater wrote: »Oh, so you really do think children should be quiet then?0
