Actually I've decided that this thread is full of excellent parenting tips. :j Earlier whilst shopping in Sainsbury's with my 9 yo and having a difference of opinion with her that grocery shopping doesn't mean a couple of packets of sweets, a comic, a moshi monster lunch bag and water bottle, a pen and a cuddly toy! I decided that since we were also eating there, I should take some advice on board and make her go and choose what she wanted to eat in advance to save her annoying other customers with her dithering. By the time she'd gone to the in-store cafe, located the menu board, fathomed out what 'taste the difference' fish-fingers and had a chin-wag with one of her teachers she'd spotted in there I'd completed my shopping without her and was about to go thru the checkouts- just in time for her to help me pack. Win, win sitution.
I think we need lots more threads and tips like these. 0 -
I'm sure that was much easier and more pleasant for everyone than simply sitting down and letting her look at a menu

Oh I'd love to see your face when these kids play up. And If I was that mother I'd encourage them...purely for the pleasure of seeing steam coming out of your ears!!:D
Oh God no, you are brave!! :rotfl:
The first time l took DS in a pub he was a few weeks old, it was one of those harvester family friendly ones. As l walked in to where we were sitting carrying him in his car seat we got a look of utter disgust from two old biddies, one then said loudly 'l suppose that'll cry all through the meal now' - my DS was asleep and stayed that way the whole hour we were in there.
Still it was a good lesson in what was to come, since l've had kids l realise the UK is full of miseries - especially the older generation. They're completely split down the middle, the ones who like children who will talk or smile to them or ones like the OP who make it unreasonably clear they don't want to hear a squeak from them.

I would have given him a pokeOh God no, you are brave!! :rotfl:

In fact if someone was complaining or looking like thunder at my kids just for being normal, I would be inclined to let them find out what they really can be like when let off the leash :rotfl:Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

I might have responded:
"Oh no, don't worry. If he so much as twitches in his sleep, I'll get my boob out and that'll keep him quiet for the whole meal". Whether or not I was actually a breast feeding mother, just for the heck of it

Yep, and lots of "how dare you critisise children", and not forgetting "you don't have kids therefore you can't have an opinion".
There may be lots of MSE perfect parents with perfect kids, but that doesn't mean all kids are and the OP, while choosing a harsh manner to express his view, is just pointing that out.
I've breakfasted in a B&B before with very well behaved little ones in the dining room, however I am quite aware there are kids that run amok in the same situation!0 -
You're just pure evil then and your children will grow up to be feral monsters.Oh I'd love to see your face when these kids play up. And If I was that mother I'd encourage them...purely for the pleasure of seeing steam coming out of your ears!!:D

It's not, you don't have kids so you can't have an opinion, it's, you don't have kids, so you don't know what it's like to have them.Yep, and lots of "how dare you critisise children", and not forgetting "you don't have kids therefore you can't have an opinion".

She (the OP), pointed out that she expected kids to be seen and not heard, only that would make her happy.
That's not perfect kids, that's kids bullied into submission.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Where has that been said?
Someone asked how hard it was to control children, and I pointed out they didn't have any, so would have no idea of how hard it is.
That's not the same as saying they aren't entitled to an opinion because they aren't a parent at all.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0
