Camera Vans, do you warn others?

Yes you could argue if I cannot overtake whilst keeping within the 60mph limit I shouldn't overtake..... but I live in the real world.
No, it isn't what a member/s on here argue, it is the law.
If you are not able to safely overtake within speed limits then you shouldn't be attempting to do so in the first place.
Unfortunately, I also live in the real world and encounter idiots like you on a daily basis wrecking havoc on the road, thinking you know better.
I'd have cameras spaced every 10 foot if I could to get the menaces off the road.0 -

How is it a tax? I don't pay it, how come? Am I evading a tax?
I don't pay tax on tobacco as I don't smoke. I'm not chased for not paying that either.
Get this, you don't pay a speeding 'tax' if you don't bloody speed!
It's a fine, not a tax, and it's not high enough in my opinion.0 -
It is annoying on straight roads though.
Take the A68 as an example. Difficult road for lorries and there are a few villages on the route. Are the cameras North of the Border in the 30mph villages protecting people or are they on the first straight bit when you might have a chance of passing a lorry or caravan?
The issue being inappropriate speed and of course exposure to danger. I'm sure the IAM actually tell people it is better to exceed the limit slightly if doing an overtake than be on the wrong side of the road for an extended period. sure someone will know more on that but the point being a camera doesn't know that and I'm sure the mobile chaps really don't care either.
I'm dead against speedign in a 30 limit and personally I think anyone who does deserves to get points. Just daft. I know this point has been covered on here at length though.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
No. If someone is speeding then it's their fault entirely, and me flashing my lights at them isn't going to make them learn more than a fine & ticking off from a copper.0
-
Regarding fines, they need to stop with set fee's and instead start fining people a percentage of their wealth. How on earth we go on with that I don't know, but at the moment footballers are hit with £50 fines for being drunk and disorderly, it's crazy.0

A flashing motorist almost certainly saved me a ticket on the A12 a few years back. I'll warn others if I deem the speed trap to be unnecessary (ie road conditions allow for a faster speed than what the jobsworths are enforcing). I wouldn't warn a boy racer moron or anyone who looks like they deserve a ticket. I will always warn a biker regardless of how they are riding.0

i suppose here theres mixed opinions.
some will some migh and some wont.
the concensus ive drawn up is, if your blasting the speed on the road, carryon i wont save you points, but if you doing near the limit, then ill flash just to remind you theres a camera there and to watch that speed more closely.
ive seen camera vans parked up in places that are illegal because they believe they are above the law when they hop in a camera van. ive seen them parked on double yellows on a junction blocking view to your right of oncoming traffic. ive seen many in police traffic cars only bays on duals and motorways, ive seen one parked on zig zags wich carrys to the avearge joe 3 points and £60 fine for parking on, ive seen them park in emergency only laybys, parked on grass over a footpath or curbs, on grass verges, bus stops these are there purely just to make a revenue from us the motorist, ive stopped on a few occasions and asked the cam van man why he think its legal for him to park illegally? like in a police patrol vehicle only bay the response i get is were calling the police if you dont move on! to wich i reply go ahead i merely a citizen like you are that has spotted something illegal and ill make a full statement to the police and encourage a ticket from them, they pack up and go so they know full well its illegal for them to be there, they just wanted the best spot in wich to catch a speeding motorist.
the last time i saw this was llanbradach bypass south bound, theres a layby with a police patrol vehicle only bay, it parked right in it eventhough the signs were clearly visable (safety partnership can) i took photo's of it and reported it to the head office of our force area, i had a response back 28 days later informing me that an investigation into the allegation of illegal parking by the safety camera partnership had been concluded, and due to lack of evidence no action is being taken, so i sent the pics off, case reopened, and the final response was that the van had been illegally parked, motrists who had been issued a FPN/NIP has been informed and that they wished to thank me for bringing this to their attention, there was also a notice in the lagal rag with a mini peice on it saying that motorist who were issued tickets by this van should call a number and send their license off to the DVLA with a incident number to have the points removed and the fine refunded.
so moral is if you spot an illegally parked safety camera partnership van, take a photo if you can with reg and clear parking violation, report it to your local area police HQ as a public interest complaint.
but those doing it correctly and those who are blatantly speeding, i wish good luck i wont warn you, but those who are near the limit just over ill flash especially when you coming out of a NSL to a 30MPH zone with a camera down a bit from there.0 -
Not too sure what you are on about here, however, I'll try my best.
I have never encountered the problem of 'getting caught speeding even when I wasn't!'
Although I'd say the chances of it happening are probably as close to zero as it is possible to get, judging from experience.
I have. And it wasn't simply a case of explaining that I wasn't speeding. I knew I wasn't, but the SCP wouldn't let me see photos, and I wasn't entitled to see the evidence until I'd received a summons and entered a not guilty plea. At that stage, the photos were sent, and it was clear that my car wasn't even pinged. A road sign was clocked at 39 in a 30 limit.
How many people would have just folded and handed over a quarter of their licence, with the threat of a fine, costs and witness surcharge hanging over them?
I have no idea how many people wrongly receive NIPs - I would think that most people assume the camera never lies, and just pay up.
My dad also received a NIP when he wasn't speeding - from a Gatso, this time. 48 in a 30, allegedly. Photos showed him doing approx 24.0 -
I always warn if I'm able.... I consider it as possibly life saving crime preventionAlways try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0

I just wish that the authorities would place a camera in my rural village. We are on the main road to a holiday resort, which is the home to zillions of caravan sites.
Our village is entered and left via a series of very sharp bends, clearly signed.
The last bend towards the coast, is a "hairpin".
Halfway through the village, there is the village shop and Post Office, in the centre of the bend complex. To give you an idea of how dangerous the bends are, these are 3 incidents in our village:
* A huge livestock truck overturned on one bend. Over 200 young pigs were killed immediately, or had to be destroyed. The whole incident, accompanied by horrific noise, happened directly in front of 7 Sheltered homes. The driver was on his mobile.
* A large HGV, loaded with a massive holiday home, dropped the home on to a house wall. On both occasions it was the holiday season and the road was closed for many hours. Residents were prevented from leaving or entering the village. The driver was said to be driving above the limit by witnesses. Nothing was proved.
* Today I walked through the village as truck passed through loaded with what appeared to be scrap. Lumps of it fell of and struck a small car following. I picked up some of the lumps, which appeared to be hard plastic.
On the opposite side to the shop, is a Sheltered Housing complex of 20+ bungalows, with some residents aged in their 80's and 90's.
Cars and caravans heading to and from the coast, drive well above the limit of 30 mph.
Someday, there is going to be a really bad incident, but it appears that only a fatality or two will inspire the Highways Agency to pressure the authorities into giving us a camera.
So, no, I don't warn speeders, but I routinely wave the 'slow down' signal at them. Sometimes I even use all my fingers.
And yes, I am a driver, for almost 50 years. I have been caught by a camera twice in those years, a few miles above the limit. It served me right and I deserved the Points upon my license.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
