Just found this thread, been a lurker on the forum in the past but in need of inspiration as we're on a tight budget food wise at the moment. I won a veg box in a raffle and it was delivered today, it's got a good sized savoy cabbage in it, was wondering if anyone had any ideas what to do with the large outer leaves as I don't want to chuck them away if I can make something out of them!Grocery Challenge 2024

You can still eat them if you finely chop them. Or you can use them to wrap food in like stuffed vine leaves, or you can add to soups and stews. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I agree with Mooloo with stuffed leaves or you can chop them up and fry them, that is the "seaweed" that you get in Chinese takeaways and restaurants. My DD's friend's dad owns a Chinese restaurant, she taught me how to make lots of Chinese food.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I have followed this thread on and off for some time and love all the great ideas and menus in it.
I look out for Butterfly Brain's posts re the Aldi Super 6 and what to do with them. :T
I was looking for a piece of advice. I noticed that Aldi have a chubb of black pudding for £1.99. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for main meals made with this as although it looks a good deal I didnt want to buy just to have with breakfasts/on a roll etc.
Any ideas would be appreciated.0 -

I like it fried and served with some cauliflower cheese and new potatoes, have also cut it into small cubes and fried to serve with mixed salad leaves & grated apple as a warm salad. TV chefs often serve it with scallops, I haven't tried it - my budget doesn't often run to scallopsJan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

It is great stuffed in chicken breasts (even better with a creamy Glayva or Drambuie sauce) or if you are splashing out wrapped in lamb noisettes. Yum !0 -

Not much there really for main meals, but I will stock up on potatoes because they hold really well in the fridge. Apart from that I will get some mushrooms to freeze, I don't need any more plums my neighbour has been giving me carrier bags of them and a lot are in jam or in a syrup in the freezerBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
