  • been slowly reading through this post and wow! its not something I think I could stick to, and i'm very thankful that I don't have to. checking my MrT website my area prices seem to be higher then a lot of yours and we don't have a lot of the everyday products mentioned. we are currently getting an Aldi built and judging by the work completed it should open soon so that's exciting. as a mum with a 4 year old the best I can manage while making sure the little person gets the right nutrition is about £10. so well done to all of you that can get it closer. I think the key is to go mostly veggie. infact baking vegan is really cheap using veg oil instead of butter and substituting eggs for baking powder and apple cider vinegar. the extra bonus is the fresh parts of the baking aren't fresh so you can keep them in your store cupboard :D hope this helps someone

  • also my other suggestion would be to eat your big meal at lunch instead of in the evening that way you would have more energy and be able to concentrate at work/looking after the children when you need it. and save the snacky lunch meal for before bed where if you are hungry you can just go to sleep.

Okay here is my contribution. I've not exactly stuck to the rules i'm over budget and this is a meal plan for someone in my situation (single mum with young child) I've tried to do a fairly nutritionally balanced meal plan with variety for as cheap as I could. All from Mr T as according to my local.

    FRUIT AND VEG
    4x loose banana = 49p
    4x loose carrots = 36p

    DAIRY
    1x creamfields 4pt semi-skimmed milk = £1.00
    1x everyday eggs box of 15 = £1.35
    1x everday mozerella = 55p
    1x everday fromage frais 6pk = 42p

    STORE CUPBOARD
    1x everyday cornflakes = 31p
    1x everyday baked beans = 29p
    1x everyday jam = 29p
    2x everyday garden peas = 40p
    1x everyday passata = 34p
    1x everyday penne = 39p
    1x kingsfood hotdogs = 49p
    1x everyday batter mix = 20p
    1x everyday veg stock cubes 10pk = 20p
    1x cheese sauce mix = 30p
    1x everyday rice = 40p
    1x everyday new potatoes = 20p
    1x everyday sweetcorn = 35p

    1x everyday wholemeal bread = 45p

    Basket total =£8.78

    BREAKFAST
4 days of cornflakes with milk and half a sliced banana each.
3 days of jam on toast

LUNCHES (having main meal at lunch to sustain energy when you need it most)
2 days of Yorkshire puds (made from batter mix and an egg) with 2 hot dogs each 1/4 tin of potatoes 1/4 tin of peas and half a sliced boiled carrot each.
1 day of penne with passata reduced down with a stock cube and topped with half the mozerella.
2 days of egg fried rice (rice boiled in veg stock) with peas and sweet corn.
2 days of penne with cheese sauce and remaining peas

    DINNERS
2 days of beans on toast (beans are 1 05 your 5 a day)
3 days of scrambled egg on toast/egg sandwiches
2 days of omelette with remaining chopped tinned potatoes and left over mozerella.

    SNACKS
fromage frais most days for child
    carrot sticks

still a little bleak and lacking in meat although, eggs, milk, cheese, beans and yoghurt do provide protein.

this plan does balance on having some kind of cooking fat and possibly salt and pepper in the cupboard.
sorry it's over budget but as I said its the best healthy varied plan I could come up with as cheap as I could
    :D

you'd have some jam, rice, cornflakes and stock cubes to carry over

    Thanks :o
it wasn't as hard as i thought it would be.

also thought i'd share what we had for lunch today. all from MrS

    basics chicken soup = 24p
    basics sweetcorn = 25p
    basics instant noodles = 20p
    bakery cheese baton = 45p

    total = £1.14

made a hearty soup with the chicken soup, cooked noodles, sweetcorn and 1/2 tin of water. served with bread. has made 4 tummy filling portions. so would feed two people for two meals. was really yummy, although possibly high in salt need to look at that. less than 29p per serving too :D
