Thanks everyone for such a brill thread - so many great ideas, you have really inspired me to be more careful and menu plan. I feel I have not been as thrifty recently and this has got me back on track with so much more to learn.

We have a new Aldi - it's great and I agree with others that it is so calm in there, no music which I hadn't realised until recently.

I have spent the last few days scribbling down recipes, hints and tips. You are a wonderful bunch of people to give so much of your time to writing these menu plans that I'm sure are helping so many of us. Please keep them coming :T

  • Saw something on here a few pages back about rosehip syrup. I love that - we used to get it at school when I was a little girl. It's years since I tasted it. I think I might be a bit frightened about picking rosehips but I wonder, can you still buy it? Sorry - I know that's not very OS but nobody is going to drink/use gallons of the stuff (I shall probably be the only one in our house to like it!!)
  • Parkgirl - Hi, yes you can still buy it, on Amazon and probably other places, i would try your local healthfood shop/chemist or just google it to choose somewhere, but its very easy to make, not that ive made it.

Hello all, I just joined a few days ago and am a lone parent now with 2 teenaged boys.

I'm struggling financially now so I'd like to say a massive thank you for the menu ideas...I shall be using them as my inspiration! Thank you for taking the time and being generous enough to bother spending your time on them.

p.s. is there a separate thread for budget menus running?

Heres one on how to feed a family of 4 on £20 a week which would prob be more suited if you have teenagers.

    Hi everyone,

I went to Asda today (Bletchley, Milton Keynes) saw Smart Price Mushy Peas at 18p and then they went through the checkout at 4p - :)

Thank you! I've started to have a good look around and there's so much advice I'm going to be busy reading it all for weeks!

    Thanks again :D
