It's always been very difficult but you need to remember that this thread was started 2 years ago and prices were very different then than they are now!
It probably is still just about possible but you would need to visit SMs later in the evening and get as much as possible on YS. You also need to eat vegetarian meals quite a bit. Being able to cook is also a distinct advantage because it's nearly always cheaper to cook from scratch.
There are several blogs on the web where people are living off this amount or not very much more.

- I got some great bargains yesterday in Morrisons.
- 3 x 6 Free range eggs for 39p date coded until the 6th August.
- 8 pots of double cream for 29p each which I made into 2lbs lovely HM butter and I used the buttermilk to make scones and a loaf of soda bread.
- 2 sheets of puff pastry reduced to 39p each.:j
We had boiled eggs with slices of cold gammon from the reduced gammon joint and salad last night with soda bread and HM butter, it was lovely.
I made a quiche using the eggs and sliced peppers and diced gammon left overs and froze it.
Then made 36 fairy cakes (12 lemon, 12 plain and 12 chocolate) for lunch boxes and treats.
The rest is for sandwiches for lunch today along with a lemon cake.
I am using one of the puff pastry sheets tonight to make DH's favourite chicken and mushroom slice and I will make a small mushroom slice for DD who is a vegetarian.
I keep home dried mushrooms in the cupboard made up of mushrooms that have been reduced and I have put into the dehydrator and they make a nice base for the sauce just use the soaking water in the sauce for a good depth of flavour. The whole mushrooms were reduced to 35p in the co-op last night
That will do main meal tonight and lunch tomorrow because it is just as good cold.
We will have the quiche tomorrow night.
And I will cook the chicken on Sunday and we will have boiled eggs, toast with scones, jam and cream for tea time
The other pastry sheet will be unrolled and frozen to used on Monday for a mozzarella and tomato slice sprinkled with fresh oregano from the garden to go with salad all of which is home grown including charlotte potatoes so no outlay there.
So that is a meal for four that has cost 44p mozzarella and 39p puff pastry total cost 83p all the rest has come from the garden.
That is a grand total of £7.56 plus a few store cupboard bits such as flour and HM dried mushrooms..........not bad for five of us ehBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

BB I wish we had a co-op near to me I have only a Mr T about a mile away and they rarely ever YS down to that price,in fact their reductions are so bad they are not worth bothering about
Adsa's is 5 miles away and saindbobs about 2 miles and you have to be quick in there as the stuff vanishes. The best bargain I got from there once was a sack of onions 7.5 kg for 10p and I spent hours peeling, chopping and freezing diced onions.Only managed half the bag the rest I passed on to neighbours locally to use.But I didn't need to buy onions for months:):):)

Slightly off topic but butterfly brain I have runner beans growing as I like the idea of growing things in the garden but don't think before I plant. BB what would you do with runner beans and how to prepare/store/freeze? Thanks bb x0
-
mojo I usually just slice and put into freezer bags. I don't blanch because they don't taste as nice. I have never had a problem in nearly 30 years of freezing my runners this way.
You can salt beans just remember that you have to really rinse them well before use. salting is a form of dehydration.
Lots of information on how to salt here

I haven't tried dehydrating yet but I plan to do some this year just to see what the beans taste like.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
