There's people starving in Africa - they wouldn't say "no" to dinner.

But it would have gone cold by the time they'd got through the immigration queues!

    Urm, but it's not free

I don't want dinner, they didn't advertise the dinner.

What about the screen shot of the option to book the sofitel at a cheaper price, ie without dinner, didnt you see that one? Or as is suggested, you thought..Yes I can get this free!

It doesn't really matter that you didn't see the dinner option, you can't claim 'not as advertised' if you are getting more than you thought.

You were happy to pay that price for room + parking, as that was what you thought you were getting. The dinner is essentially a nice surprise for you and anyone who'd actually booked this for the parking and room would be happy that they were getting a dinner as well. You on the other hand were trying to get something for nothing and got burnt. Next time read all the details.

Best thing for you to do OP is to get on the phone, say I don't want dinner and ask to be moved down to the non-dinner package. They don't have to do it but you might get lucky.

But it does when I look at it. http://secure.holidayextras.co.uk/hotels2008/c/availability?ppcmsg=&agent=WEB1&product=hcp&request=21&profile=default&Referer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.holidayextras.co.uk%2F&form_type=knot6&method=SchemeSearch&numCarParking=1&groupOrder=&lang=en&selectProduct=hcp&Location=LGW&terminal=N&Nights=1&ppts=0&RoomType%5B0%5D=D20&ArrivalTime=0600&ArrivalDate=15%2F08%2F12&DepartTime=2330&DepartDate=24%2F08%2F12&PostCode=&Email=&_memcached_expect_hit=1

Theres 2 rates on the page Room only at £209 + the dinner package at £214 which you booked.

Strange but my page set up is completely different from your screenshots.

    I use Google Chrome.

Im actually going to book Sofitel myself (hotel only, different dates) + claim back via Holiday Extras.
I already have had 2 successful claims + 1 rejection prior to this so they do pay out

I am also looking to book the sofitel for 1 night room only - can I ask where you found it cheaper?

    Thanks

Forgive me for the thread-jack, but has anyone ever tried to claim their money back on the Premier Inn's "A great night's sleep or your money back" guarantee?

Twice. Once when I told the receptionist at check-out that was a continous vibration which meant I ended up sleeping on the chair as it was worse if I laid on the bed(no comments please.:rotfl:) I received an email a few days later explaining it was a faulty drinks machine and a full refund was back to my card the same day. Second time I told the receptionist again on check-out that the duvet had a great big hole in it. It didn't stop me sleeping as I just turned the duvet over(I'm smart like that) and again full refund.

Neither time did I actually complain, just told them so they were aware.

Now don't get me started on Travelodge problems:mad:

We stayed in one recently, and there was a lot of noise outside our first floor window. Someone revving a motorbike for ages at about 3.00 a.m. woke us up, and also several groups of passers-by, obviously the worse for wear and talking loudly, at various times in the night.

We were asked on checking out whether we'd had a good stay, and I said "well we didn't get much sleep due to a lot of noise outside", but the receptionist didn't offer to refund our money. I wonder now whether I should have asked for it, even though the disturbance was obviously beyond the hotel's control.
I claimed on this a couple of times years ago but I think they have tightened up on it now. You have to complain as soon as you think that things are not right and give them the chance to put it right by usually changing your room. I can't be arsed at the moment but have a look at the T&C's of the guarantee
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
