I loathe ironing and only do what must be done, I have to do it as soon as it comes off the line , cos if it gets to be a pile then I sink into a deep dark depression... little and often is my motto then it doesn't seem so daunting..

I like it. In winter especially. We do not have heating on high (in fact don't Have heating at all atm) and ironing really warms one up.

I put the radio on with good music to sing to, use scented water, whoch is dear, but then i treat it like a sort of aromatherapy spa treatment, warm, nice smelling and slightly active.

I used to iron absolutely everything (well you have to don't you, otherwise you're a carp wife/mum aren't you, (ex) mother in law dearest?)

These days it's only my ds clothes that get ironed and only if necessary - he's so skinny everything hangs on him so no chance of those creases falling out during wear :rotfl: I try to do it once a week, there's nothing worse than a having a mountain to get through!

I'm just having a quick break from working through a pile of the stuff

There are 5 of us and it takes 2-3 hours once a week. I just hate dragging all the stuff out to do it but once I start I'm fine.

I only iron clothes, never bedcovers (only pillowcases) and think that anyone who irons socks an pants is a little bit mental :D:rotfl:

I hardly do any ironing and Im not always walking about in crumpled clothes. So many modern fabrics are pretty much crease free - hand them up to dry on hangers rather than folded over a rail and the weight of the water pulls most of the creases out. I dont iron any of mine or my husbands work trousers or my sons school uniform. The only thing are some of my husbands shirts. Look out for non iron shirts.

Some really great ideas. Bitsy's idea made me laugh but I seriously don't think I'd notice any difference between my DH ironing and them coming straight out of the dryer!

I do try to keep it to a minimum but quite a lot of works gear (both mine and DH) needs to be done - I'm probably a bit paranoid about first impressions!

Aaaarrrggghhhh.....hate it, hate it, hate it!!!

I have a pile of ironing lurking in the cupboard under the stairs. It's like having a dead spouse in the freezer, you can't stop yourself thinking about it.

I can't not do it though. All of you who hang things on hangers straight from the washing machine and smooth the creases out when it comes in from the line.....not good enough for me sadly. I don't iron sheets or undies and I certainly don't iron tea-towels. But I cannot bring myself to put away the t-shirts without ironing them first.

I used to do naked ironing as I got really hot. I just made sure I kept a minimum distance between me and the board :rotfl:

I don't do it now - the kids are older now and my son just wouldn't appreciate the view!

I don't mind ironing once I get started. I do it in front of the telly so the time flies by. Just get a really good iron Washingtime. It's like hoovering or hair-straightening - you've got to get the right tools or the end result is just crap.
  • My version of ironing is to bung it in the tumble drier with a damp teatowel for a few minutes:eek: My boys and OH do more ironing than I do, if they want 'flat clothes' they get on with it. I tend to buy stuff that doesn't crease easily; if I make a bad purchase and it does get very creased then it won't get worn too often again.
