How old is she and exactly which product was used? If it was a 'spot on' is there an oily patch in the fur at the base of her skull? What do you mean by again, she look too young to have had prescription flea products used on her twice? Do you 100% trust the person you got her from, was it a close friend or Gumtree or a rescue?
She's from a friend of a friend! there's no oily patch in her fur just some black specks
Well I was told she had been wormed and deflead and vet checked! When i picked her up today she said she'd given her a flea treatment this morning...?
She's asleep again now, she doesn't wake up to scratch...
edit: Ive just had a reply back regarding this from the lady I got her from, "We used the frontline flea spray we got from our vet not sure why she is scratching she wasn't doing it here not sure what to say hope the vets can suggest something for her"
I rung the vet back and told them this, she said that because that was used this morning nothing more can be used for 4 weeks, she also said it can take 24-48 hours for it to take effect! I haven't actually seen any fleas, just flea dirt around the neck area...:jEngaged 25/12/11 :j

Flea treatments in general are useless as once they are off the cat they lay their eggs throughout the house so everyone gets them!
My vets swear by this product: http://www.vetuk.co.uk/flea-treatments-household-flea-sprays-c-3_419/indorex-household-flea-spray-500ml-can-p-677
It is expensive but is applied to the house and will eliminate the fleas from the house. One way to check for whether they are fleas is to get a flea comb, take the black dirt away and test it on a damp piece of paper. If the paper starts turning red, you have fleas as the redness is blood0 -
best take her to the vet and buy some indorex while your there for the house x0

The vet wont do anything for her for 4 weeks, they told me that on the phone because treatment was used on her this morning
I feel helpless!
I can't get a flea comb until tomorrow, she doesn't seem stressed, she's eating and drinking, sleeping but scratching lots! The vet said the stuff takes 24-48 hours to work so fingers crossed we can nip this in the bud quickly!:jEngaged 25/12/11 :j

That is bad the breeder has let the litter catch fleas and let her come to you in that state, it's dangerous for kittens because they can be bled dry if the infestation gets out of hand. Shocked if she has had a vet check and that wasn't picked up, IMO that is a basic check for kittens. But maybe you are only getting half a story?
It makes sense that will take a couple of days to be effective, Advocate did for my Lulu's (ex stray) ear mites and she went from scratching herself silly to nothing! IMO flea comb her daily even if she stops itching. Doesn't totally eliminate the problem because the fleas don't live on the cat but there won't be any blood sucking and you can whisk her off to the vet if you keep finding fleas. Worst case scenario she can be bathed I think.
Agree Indorex is very well thought of for spraying the home. Do get your furbaby zapped for ear mites and all the different types of worms next month since she has come from a slack home. She is lucky to have you to care for her! :cool:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
if you have a comb, get a container with some water and comb her, any fleas you find drop into the water.
i usually put them in a tissue and then crack them between my nails.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500 -

Im starting to realise just what sort of start to life this poor puss has had, the replies regarding the flea issue have been very much in a "she's yours now" kinda way, as when I found that 1 flea I let her know and suggested she check the others, she just replied with "will do, thanks"
She's laid here next to the laptop now, seems very content and hasn't scratched for a while now, Ill be picking up a flea comb tomorrow and starting the routine on that, and I've had a look on the pets at home website for Indorex...according to their website they dont sell it
By next month she will be on a health plan at the vets and everything will be covered over the year and she will be well looked after:jEngaged 25/12/11 :j
