I assumed they meant SMI when they said housing benefit - it is a common mistake. Or maybe shared ownership?0 -

There's a list of what capital they take into account here:

I have a mortgage and they pay the interest for my mortgage. I declared whatever savings I had when I first claimed and never updated because I didn't go over the £2,300. My husband and children have no savings. Vax2002..yes you did scare the hell out of me. I'm absolutely ill about this but can't understand why I have been singled out especially since it is an Interview under Caution. I honestly have no savings except just the £1,300 which is a joint account with my husband. My kids have about £150 in both their accounts. My mum is disabled and can be housebound. I recently agreed, at the banks request and my mums, to be a second signatory on her account for when she can't leave the house. Prior to this, the bank were happy with my mum signing withdrawal slips for me to pay her bills but the bank had me fill out a form. It is not a joint account and is not my money. I can prove this. I only have access to pay my mums bills or withdraw money on her behalf and continue to get her to fill out the withdrawal slips as before. Do you think this could be it? They maybe think her moneys mine. She will have more than £16,000 in the account.0

Does that mean that if it is mortgage interest I get paid and this is from the 'Housing benefit/council tax' team then this is to do with council tax only? I assumed they dealt with both council tax and mortgage interest.0 -
I shouldn't imagine its anything to do with your mums account, even it was as you say you have evidence its neither your money to make use of or your account.
Its possible someone has reported you for something. If you have the money you say you have and you haven't misdeclared then you have nothing to worry about, go to the interview and see what they have to say. Be calm and clear, provide evidence where possible.
Please try not to worry unnecessarily.
ETA: you could always ring them and ask what it is about and if you can bring anything with you that may help."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

Phoned them 3 times and they refuse to tell me anything. The 1st was to ask them what this was about. They told me they couldn't speak to me and to read over the letter. The 2nd call was to double check that their letter was correct and that I had "undeclared capital". They agreed that this was the case but again refused to tell me anything else. They were quite rude and matter of fact to me on all calls. The 3rd phone call was to ask what their definition of "capital" is and they refused to even tell me that stating that it was in the initial form I filled in 4 years ago and if I want the details then go to my nearest council office 6 miles away and get the details. I was really nice to them.
I will be going to the interview regardless...just wish it was today as I am going out of my mind. Half of me tells me to stay calm as I've not done anything wrong but the other half says that it is an Interview under Caution and I must've done something wrong for them to bypass an Informal interview.0 -
