retpetsir is this the spec you got ? £421.82

Can I ask what people plan to do about Internet Security ?

Also is the 9 cell battery worth investing in ?

Is only having Vista basic going to be a problem ?

AMD® Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL56. Can so one tell me what speed this runs at ?

To use it wireless do you need one of those cards that go onto a pci slot or is it inbuilt so no card needed ?

I am getting some what confused about the Dells that seem to be currently on offer and knowing which is the best to go for to get value for money and ensure it is a little future proof and will last for a good few years preforming at a reasonible speed.

That is indeed the one that I got. I'm not sure about Vista Basic, but it comes with the installation disc so I may just uninstall Vista and install my own copy of XP if it's not any good.

From what I've read, the 9 cell isnt worth the investment (for me). It's dimensions are considerably larger than the 6-cell (which is the same size as the 4-cell) for only about 1hr extra battery life.

The TL56 runs at 1.8Ghz (x2 - dual core) with 1mb of cache (the TL50/52 on the cheaper laptops run at 1.6Ghz but have less cache and slower memory speed).

To me, the upgrade from 1GB to 2GB and upgrade in processor speed/cache was worth the extra £80.

The Dell comes with built-in wireless, no need for an extra card. I didnt upgrade to the 'super' screen as I don't like how they reflect the light, so to me that wasnt worth £35.

I believe I've got better value for money by going with double the ram and a better processor now, rather than trying to upgrade at a latter date.

    I hope that helps!

Edit: I'll be using the built-in Windows Firewall (always been fine for me in XP SP2) and then installing AVG Free (free antivirus software) as that's also always been perfect. :)

    The Great Declutter Challenge - £876 :)

The AMD Turion 64 TL56 is faster than the T2050 Core 2 Duo.

    Just for peoples info :)

But the cheap units come with the TL50 which is slower than the T2050.

Ok I managed to get to the about deal when I used the link in the first post but when I have tried to go through Quidco I can't find it ! What I did finds seem alot more expensive.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get to the deal though Quidco ?

    Thanks

Someone suggested going via Quidco to Dell THEN copying and pasting the link from the first page in. I did this and was concerned that by doing this I might have bypassed the tracking. It's my first attempt and it was successful! It is now showing in Quidco tracking (or whatever you call it!).

Because of the problems I mentioned further up the thread I managed to negotiate £50 off, so I have got £63 back in total. My only addition was the battery for £11.

Enter 100 in the left-hand box, n03153 in the right-hand box.

Downgrade the warranty and you're there?

The quickest way to get to the E-code product you want is to enter the number i.e N03153 into the search box at the top right of the Dell home page. It will take you straight to what you want ! And it will track with Quidco this way.
